🎵 Monthly Song Challenge 🎵

SO many songs...but I remember when we got cable and I was mesmerized by MTV (you know, when they actually played music videos). One of my favorites was Stand and Deliver by Adam and the Ants.

That's weird I was gonna post this song. But the love for them (and their own longevity) was short lived.

When I discovered the sound of electric guitar, that was me hooked!

The Ants might not have lasted much longer after this song came out, but Adam Ant is still going strong. He's also gone back to more of his punk roots with the early Ants. Doesn't do much of the commercial pop stuff he did later in the 80s.

Here he is with his current band just a few years ago. His female drummer, Jola is an amazing player and just a super sweet person. She sent my son her drum sticks from this tour On his 6th birthday since he couldn't have a birthday party due to the pandemic. (My son used to be a massive Adam Ant fan :))

Day 29 - a song from your childhood - this was tough (as were many others) but i try not to use the same song or artist in hopes others find new music they may like - 1st Chapin came to head but I thpught I had already posted that, but it was a conversation with another lit'er about him I recalled. So I'll leave that. But I also thought of Kenny Rogers - I was exposed to both by my parents, I still listen to Harry Chapin, but not Kenny Rogers. However, it was the 1st concert I was ever at with my parents and an uncle, I remember Gallagher opened, and know one knew who he was at the time, he was smashing watermelons and everybody was more like WTF than laughing. Anyway today you get 2 from me!
Harry Chapin - A better Place To Be
Kenny Rogers - The Gambler

I saw them live 1981 I think it was. They were really good live!

Day 29
Living Doll - The Young Ones & Cliff Richard

God I used to adore this song as a kid. I had a poster of The Young Ones on my wall when I was 6. I was besotted with Rik Mayall. Still am I guess. No one quite like him.
The Young Ones was hilarious! I just love their show! :giggle:

She is very talented. She is a bit obnoxious (regardless of her name), but no denying talent. I think it is easy to dismiss pop stars as talentless clowns, especially in this day and age of auto- tune and computer generated music (I'm guilty of it myself), but if you (generally speaking) keep an open mind, you can find some hidden gems among the crap. I even like like a few Taylor Swift and Justin Bieber songs and NEVER thought I would EVER say something like that.

I love this guy on YouTube. Hes a music producer and has a series where he objectively analyzes the current chart topping "hits." He's really helped me open my mind to SOME of today's pop artists and appreciate music I might typically pass off as crap.

I love watching music nerds and reaction videos on YouTube. If you want some insight to vocals, look into The Charismatic Voice. She's a former opera singer who has been diving into metal for the last couple of years and has really shattered the illusion that rock singers are just untrained idiots that happen to sound good 😂

My only exposure to Adam Ant (or Adam and the Ants, my Internet searches are split on the true answer since 2000) was this scene from SLC Punk! (my favorite fucking movie) was "Beat My Guest". It made the movie, but not the actual soundtrack. Skip to 2:53 for the actual scene
I was obsessed with Cyndi Lauper when I was in Kindergarten. My Dad owned a fly fishing shop at the time & made me colorful feather earrings to wear, just like a pair I'd seen on her. I was the coolest 5 year old on the block!
Thanks to Raving Rabbids, I can't hear this song correctly anymore. Same goes for Poker Face or Come Sail Away and South Park.
