Variations on a theme

If it's an attached file, it will remain in the quote even after it's deleted.

It doesn't. I just poofed my pic from earlier today and if you go back and look, the link in the quotes no longer work.
It can be a bit confusing because if you have viewed a pic your browser may cache the file and hence you can still view it via the link to the cached file on your device, even after it has been removed.

As for the quoting photos and quoting links to photos, what it comes down to in my book is that I didn't give anyone else permission to include my photo or a link to my photo in their post. When you quote someone's photo, you're basically posting their photo in your own post without their permission.

Then don't post it on a message board 🤷‍♀️ You could use that same excuse for anything you post, not just images, and it would not make any sense.

Honestly...I think it is our own responsibility, not someone else's, to make sure that the pictures we want to share can be removed on our own if we no longer want them here.

I hear you, but I think this is one of those times when two things are true: we can do our best to take control of our own images so we're only sharing when we mean to; and it's polite to not copy, quote, or post other people's images without permission.

I was genuinely curious why a couple of you kept saying not to quote, when that's not the way most of Lit works. So I asked and it was answered. If a poster includes a message not to quote, then I will happily remove the link. I don't see how that has anything to do with permission, though, when we know people quote and reply to the messages that we post on a message board before we make the post.
