They always go like this: great interview, great CV. When can I start?
“Oh one last question, how is your French?”
End of interview…..

call them back, ask the question 'does this position require my being fluent in French?'
it could save you a trip, or it could be a favourable reply.

if the job's that great, is it worth you improving your french?
