Cook the sausage then add, Flour, milk, salt, and pepper.


In my little corner of the South, we also have chocolate gravy and tomato gravy. Both are good, though I'm not a mater fan.

You don’t have to be from the south to appreciate grits. Firstly never add sugar! Secondly use butter or butter and cheese. Shrimp and grits is amazing!

I've tried to appreciate them, sadly.

I failed.

To be fair, I'm not really one for big breakfasts as a rule.

I'm definitely more of a savory grits kind of person. I've had them with maple syrup before and it was OK, just not my preference.

Eww no. Grits aren’t made for syrupy sweetness.
In Europe they have polenta which is very similar.

I have clearly missed an important conversation.
(1) Buiscuts and gravy....YES as long as it's made right...what passes for "gravy" in some place (damn yankees!) is a travesty.
(2) Grits.... so, somehow I've never really developed an appreciation for grits. I can do shrimp and grits. I've had them a few other ways too. I think, honestly, they are just too bland and the amount of work it takes to turn them into something better is best put into making good gravy for biscuits.

It’s not terrible, but at times the gravy is like wallpaper paste.
My mom made homemade biscuits and sausage gravy all the time, but mostly when we had guests staying over. So from a Yankee.
