Why are Conservatives so obsessed with race?

Racist are fearful they will be replaced and they are correct.

It's a dying breed....

Racism is a mentality/ideological issue.... not a breed.

Folks or racial and ethnic background are living out their lives, happy and free from these racist notions.

The USA is more diverse than ever and it's laws reflect and protect that diversity more than ever....

I'm glad you understand there is no white privilege and the USA isn't a racist nation.

that will not change no matter how many racist tears are shed for the good ole days of racism.

Only if "progressives" are kept from office.

Correct. And boy, will they shed the tears...

So, being huge cheerleaders for diversity, you all are thrilled at a black immigrant woman won the Lt. Gov office in Virginia, right? And that a Cuban-American won the AG office? Both of them actual "firsts."

I'll wait for your joyful outbursts.

White racism will come to an end when blacks stop committing so many crimes and when they stop having so many illegitimate children that whites are expected to support on welfare. White racism does not cause black social pathology; black social pathology causes white racism.

repukes have a racist base and it also keeps the focus off of themselves.

The Republican Party is divided by class but united by race. This is not usually a problem, because for most people most of the time loyalties of race, nation, and ethnicity are stronger than class.

The Republican Party is divided by class
But are they really? It seems to me they've got an awful lot of poor rural whites hoodwinked into voting for policies that will keep them in poverty, under the guise that emptying their pockets so their boss' boss' boss can get a tax cut is somehow "good for the country".

AKA Alabama's m.o. for the last...well, forever.

I love conversations like this. Unfortunately, just by scanning this thread, it’s only taken seriously by people who consider themselves progressive or Democrats. It’s nuanced and it’s complicated as evidenced by this simple objecting view just shown.
The last time, and the only time that my memory can recall, the republican party taking up this conversation seriously was with the Priebus post election autopsy. In 2013! Sheez. Correct me if I’m wrong, but in my mind, that led Marco Rubio to try to instigate immigration reform and Republicans were praised for taking a serious step to actually fulfilling the promise of being a big tent party. Sigh. We all know what happened afterwards. These are the things that I find that Democrats talk about. Not Republicans.

Political opinion surveys indicate that working class white Republicans, and lower middle class white Republicans who are attracted to the religious right, support domestic spending programs that benefit them, mainly Social Security and Medicare, but also unemployment compensation, and often Medicaid, and even food stamps.

This comes as an unpleasant surprise to rich Republicans, when they move beyond vague talk about "less government" and try to cut or eliminate specific items in the domestic budget.

Lower income white Republicans know that their incomes are often precarious so they want a safety net for themselves, although they would rather work. They do not want their tax money to fund welfare checks for blacks.

I can agree with your points found in the surveys. But that doesn’t address the fact that these people, although realizing the benefits, still turn a blind eye and vote in office candidates who make no bones about taking away those very benefits.

And let’s be clear, when Social Security benefits were first implemented it was not intended to include the black population.

Social Security is an income redistribution program. Income is redistributed from those who work to seniors who don’t. Race has nothing to do with it.

Obama, famously declared that he didn’t care what you called healthcare reform as long as Americans got it. In Kentucky, I believe, it’s called, Kyconnect. And Kentucky, at one time, had one of the highest enrollment rates. We are talking about the home of Mitch McConnell and Rand Paul. White and rural Republicans had to be fooled by the Democratic governor into bettering themselves. They don’t know it’s Obamacare.
