Florida and hurricanes

Oh OK, I saw a thread titled "Florida and Hurricanes" and then proceeded to post something about ... Florida and hurricanes. Figured it was on topic!

I'll keep doing what I've done for 20+ years and post what the fuck I want.
Maybe it wasn't meant for you and your narcissistic point of view? But for the post I didn't quote but has since been deleted? 20 years...and you haven't learned...no one gives a fuck what you say.

Your entire diatribe is nonsense. Florida did not single handedly pass the laws related to Federal Disaster Relief. Virtually every state is subject to natural disasters, floods, fires, tornado's, hurricane's. earth quakes, the list goes on. Why would the manner in which a state raises its monies and pay its bills have anything to do with the issue? In reality the method doesn't mean a damn thing.................period.

And while we're on the subject, how is it that FL has a $21.8 Billion surplus without having to resort to taxing its citizens incomes? Hmmmm? And thank God they do, they're going to have to dip into that surplus over the next few months.
There reaches a point where supporting the junkie must stop. Shall we look at which states received Federal Disaster Funding? What time-frame should we look at? 20 years? 50? It won't matter....it is the same 2 states ranked at the top. When is enough enough? These people choose to live there. It isn't the Federal Govt job to help them recover over and over and over. Help them once....yes by all means. Twice....sure...shit can happen. But year after year? Wait....you got a surplus....you don't need our help

The policy SHOULD be build back STRONGER!! (and perhaps NOT in a flood plain)
Porto Ricco needs to be allowed to build back stronger! Not ONLY to build back the same!!
THAT'S crazy!!
At least Florida isn't an island that can only ship from America. Imagine THAT supply chain problem!!!
I will give Florida that much credit....they have changed their building codes and it showed here. But that doesn't mean they should be building on the coast. 20 miles inland....makes a hell of a lot of difference in damage for these kinds of storms. Common sense

OK, following the "common sense" angle just get congress to pass a law, "No privately owned land within 20 miles of any US coast."

There, fixed the problem.

Florida has prepared and will fund this without an income tax because they use sales taxes which are inherently more fair and efficient. Only those who suffer from wealth envy worship at the alter of the Income Tax. The Federal government would be a lot better funded under the FairTax.org.

Any resident who wasn't insured is an idiot (and votes Democrat to get bailed out in times like this).

Now, let's do California and all those fires that we have to fund the fighting of because their income tax does not bring in enough money to fund all of their spending on everything woke under the sun.

This, in short, is a very moronic myopic thread...

He's on TV now explaining what they are doing and what is going on and he sounds more Presidential, coherent and competent than BOTH Biden and Trump.

I'd vote for that over the Libertarian candidate if given the chance.

Florida’s taxpayers are still feeling the bite from DeSantis’ reform of Reedy Creek.

I'm not sure what the income tax issue is. Florida has a sales tax. As well as property tax. Most states have two, but not all three.

Exactly right....fucking common sense. For the cost the rest of us must pay for Florida's stupidity, we could have paid for free health care for all kids. Far better use of money. Or if you don't like that....how about metal detectors in every public school and security to man them for 20 years.

Wrong...most states have all three. This way, budgets can be made that aren't reliant on say....an economic downturn fucking your sales tax requiring one to raise property taxes to pay for something like....schools. Property taxes should not be determined by how much money you need this one year....because once it goes up....it ain't never going back down even when you have great economic forecasts

Property taxes are usually linked to county-level government and services. Sales taxes are often linked to city-level government and services.

Eh so I'm wrong. Reality is foolish building practices are all over the states. Jersey shore. California quake zones. Oregon flood plains. Midwest tornadoes. Etc.

I find your attitude of throwing out the baby with the bathwater to be offensive. I get where irritations lay but the reality is it is a team effort. Even if we aren't acting like a team right now.

Lol. Do you even live in the US?
Apparently I'm wrong. Sue me. At least I'm not a trumper.

Thankfully our secrets were gathered before this storm else enemies would be picking up shit in Canada

Election officials in Florida are discussing alternative means of voting for counties most affected by Hurricane Ian, with just a week before the deadline for mail ballots to be sent out and less than six weeks until Election Day," the Miami Herald reported.

though it's too early to know the extent of damage and where's been hit the worst, several counties may need to delay their "scheduled mail-out dates for domestic vote-by-mail ballots — potentially past the deadline imposed by Florida’s constitution." That deadline is Oct. 6th.

In Lee and Charlotte County—where Ian made landfall—200,000 people voted by mail during the most recent midterm election, in 2018. It'll be interesting to see how desantis handles all this mess considering his stance on mail-in ballots and (faux) fraud due to this provision. Something tells me he's going to bend over backwards to facilitate the mail-ins:
According to voter registration numbers, in Lee County, there are 225,000 registered Republicans and 129,000 registered Democrats. In Charlotte County, there are 72,000 registered Republicans and 35,000 registered Democrats.
if those numbers were reversed, i'd not be so confident he'd be accommodating.

If you suddenly don't have a house, or a car, or a workplace, or maybe some family members, is voting even in your realm of thought?

Well goodie two shoes to you. Personally....it is people like you harming this country....giving the addicts money over and over and over and over. I am all for helping people. But it is stupid to give money that will be destroyed again with the next heavy rain. Hate to tell you....sea level is rising and it won't take a Cat 4 storm to cause this kind of damage in 20 years. Deny this....prove me wrong instead of pretending to be better than you are
