Net Zero Collapses

Depending on the scenario. I've read that diesel electrics have snuck up on carrier groups, I'll give you that. I've watched a documentary on diesels and we've always held a high regard and respect for them, their are an impressive unit and a great addition to European defense. They do play a large role in NATO's defense, that's why we play wargames with them. That being said the advantages of a Virginia sub is substantial. A Virginia sub can take out multiple surface ships from 1,500 miles away. Tactics are changing and improving every day. Carrier missions like when dealing with the MIDEAST are much different than dealing with advanced nuclear powers. We don't know what Virginia Class submarines are fully capable of.

Don't torpedoes make noise? The Diesel may be quiet but torpedoes aren't. SSNs do have some pretty sophisticated anti torpedo countermeasures. Rumor has it that SSNs are being outfitted with smaller interceptor torpedoes.
The subs that have managed that are actually air independent propulsion boats. A Swedish Gotland class boat with a Stirling engine was the first to pull that off. The US Navy ended up leasing that boat for two years to develop counter-measures.

More and more navies are developing AIP boats so they are a concern. However they are still range restricted and although they can operate for extended periods without surfacing, they still have to surface and run the diesel(s) to re-charge.

Exactly!

They're great for littoral ops. The US Navy is considering buying a few for our own littoral defense.

A carrier group consists of an aircraft carrier, a few destroyers and up to two cruisers and supply ships. And there is a nuclear submarine at the front and one at the rear. The Americans are the good guys, of course. Some Europeans with their tiny fuel cell submarines get to play bad guy. At the end of the manoeuvre, it's “all submarines surface”. And practically every time, a small European submarine appears right next to the aircraft carrier and asks if it has been detected. The answer is always 'Bloody hell, where did you come... Yes, of course."
A single torpedo is enough to destroy the carrier. Or more, if a nuclear warhead is used.

AIP submarines do have their advantages, but their short range and slow speeds mean they are primarily restricted to littoral waters. Carrier groups don't operate in littoral waters. When the HMS Gotlund was used in exercises against the Ronald Reagan, the US Navy had to tow it to and from the exercise area. And those exercises were conducted in 2005. I haven't seen any recent reports of similar exercises with similar results, and an internet search on the topic only returned references to that exercise and incident with a Chinese submarine and US Kitty Hawk in 2006. Has the US Navy not been able to develop better detection and defense abilities against these threats? I couldn't find anything definitive on it, but maybe you have better resources in this area. I would be interested in seeing such information if you have it.

None of this is related to the subject of this thread, so I will refrain from making further comments on the matter.

What you understand it to be is collapsing.
“Rampant climate misinformation is turning the crisis into a catastrophe, according to the authors of a new report.

It found climate action was being obstructed and delayed by false and misleading information stemming from fossil fuel companies, rightwing politicians and some nation states. The report, from the International Panel on the Information Environment (Ipie), systematically reviewed 300 studies.

The researchers found climate denialism has evolved into campaigns focused on discrediting solutions, such as the false claims that renewable energy caused the recent massive blackout in Spain.

Online bots and trolls hugely amplify false narratives, the researchers say, playing a key role in promoting climate lies. The experts also report that political leaders, civil servants and regulatory agencies are increasingly being targeted in order to delay climate action.”

Hmm
SCIENCE vs Big Oil
Defund science
Help Big Oil big time!
Like Big Oil has never lied?
I’m putting micro plastics on their plate with lead contamination and global climate change. Prove the science wrong? Nahhh just defund it illegally

We will not run out of petrol, we will run out of atmosphere. And long before that, off a world we can live on

You still here? Still have a phone and 'puter? Lights, heat, refrigeration? Get rid of all that shit then get back to the rest of us that haven't joined a cult.

If you want to side with the he bots, trolls and hired liars go ahead.

Waste and fraud …

White House moves to keep costly unneeded Michigan coal plants open

the US Department of Energy (DoE) has ordered the JH Campbell coal plant on Lake Michigan to remain open beyond its 31 May closure date
“The unnecessary recent order … will increase the cost of power for homes and businesses in Michigan and across the midwest,” the chair of the MPSC, Dan Scripps, said in a statement. “We currently produce more energy in Michigan than needed. As a result, there is no existing energy emergency in either Michigan or [the regional US grid].”

I remember when Reagan took office, first thing the new administration did was remove the solar panels Carter had installed on the WH roof. Total dick move, and totally pointless.
Like HHS shutting down the national suicide hotline for LGBTQ+ youth -- yeah, that just happened. Not only that, the announcement omitted the "T" -- this administration does not want to admit transgenders exist.
