Can't believe that I'm back in jail. Facebook are threatening 'community standards' and I'll hear tomorrow if they're chucking me out.

I wouldn't mind but they haven't actually told me what I've done to upset them!

Anybody else facing the same problems?

No, but I've always thought Facebook is much more suited for sharing family photos, cute animal videos, and Wordle results than controversial political content, so I'm not likely to get in trouble.

I have many reservations about social media platforms regulating content because as a general matter I don't trust the regulators to do their job fairly, even if there is some matter that on its face would seem to be worth regulating.

Best course of action: Leave on your own terms and make sure FB actually deletes your data. If your friends can't be bothered to call you or send a *gasp* old-fashioned email, then it's time to revise friendship levels.

In the leadup to a class reunion my lady love and I went on Facebook for half a year, to reconnect with old class mates. The reunion fell through because the same people who came up with the idea got into bitter arguments about petty shit like back in the old days, like where to meet, how to split the bills and who called the shots organizing rooms and board. Still, we reconnected with some old friends and once we were done exchanging life stories, we realized there had been good reasons why we stopped calling or sending mails. Within two weeks, my lady love got rather sleazy propositions from two guys, I received some unsolicited boob and panty shots from an ex (recently divorced) who thought after 25 years I'd be desperate and bored enough of my lady love to give her another shot. We retreated from actively engaging with the old gang but kept the channel open. I tried pimping my writing, but that went nowhere - the demand for smutty SF and Fantasy written in English was 0,0 among my friends. "English? Can't you translate it to German?" Our feed eventually only consisted of news snippets tangential to the wider VI/blind community, food porn or dank memes. And so many ads. So we sent out one last message including our contact info, left it up for two weeks and the we deleted our accounts. Not just "frozen", but actual deletion by digging into FBs settings and jumping through their hoops.

That was four years ago. Now hazard a guess how many people kept in touch.

One of the creeps kept sending raunchy proposals up to and including dick pics. Dani had a field day mocking him. "You know JAWS doesn't do jpgs. But Chris told me what a tiny dick you have." That made him stop. Well, and I've kept getting the occasional "I miss you so much" mail from my ex, usually with a nude or two attached - despite me politely asking her to stop. I can't bring myself to flag her mails as spam, but every "no more pics please" earns me new ones. That woman doesn't need a lay, she needs a shrink and depressed me is the worst place to look for help.

What was the question again? Right. FUCK FACEBOOK.

Do what I did. Send their management a letter and tell them to get screwed, cancel your account, and move on. Remember you are the one who has value. Without their users they are nothing.

Thing is, I use it to promote my books. And there's stuff on facebook that is way more offensive than the word 'blowjob' or me mentioning 'erotica'.
