🧘🏼‍♂️🤾🏻‍♀️Getting Sweaty Again: The 3rd Circuit 🚴🏼‍♂️🏋🏼‍♀️

Cycling I've always found to be deceptive. I used to be an avid cyclist too, and a couple of months ago hopped on the bike to find that if you're not riding on the regular those muscles aren't used to that anymore.

Misleading workouts: what’s a workout that is more or less strenuous than you assumed it would be? For example, taking a leisurely bike ride. I was expecting it to be easy and enjoyable to just jump on my bike after having not ridden it in quite a while. It was a lot harder than I remembered it being. I used to ride my bike to work and I didn’t think twice about it but without that consistency, it was a lot more difficult.

Also gardening and housework (vacuuming, dusting, etc.). I work up a sweat gardening and cleaning. I need to look up how many calories are burned from an hour of housework.
Swinging a kettlebell. Just a simple movement but such a great strenuous workout

Cycling for me as well, but swimming even more so.

I mean, if someone challenged me to walk a mile - no problem; cycle a mile - easy; run a mile - I'd need to train for a couple of weeks, but I know I could do it; swim a mile - that seems impossible to me!

It's almost as if water is harder to move through than air  🧐

Swimming a mile is a lot!! I remember when I was on swim teams and we’d warm up with a 500 and it took 20 min on a good day. A mile would be a strenuous workout (for me).

Edited to say maybe a liiiitle less. But still that’s a lot of swimming.

Have you had any back issues because of the kettlebell?

I don't know about back issues, but I once saw a really fit and muscular guy smack himself in the balls during a vigorous kettlebell swing routine in the gym...he went down hard (no pun intended!).

For some reason, I've never had a desire to use kettlebells since.

Ouchie 😬

I use kettlebells regularly. If you’ve never used them, it helps to have a certified trainer show you proper form. You can absolutely fuck yourself up with them if your form sucks. I am lucky - I had a great KB trainer from the start so I’ve kept that knowledge.

KB swings are amazing but it’s easy to do them lazily and hurt yourself. proper form always matters but probably moreso with KBs IMO

No it actually solved my back issues. I was hit by a car as a pedestrian. Not sure how they didn’t see me as I’m 6’7”. But had lower back issues and tried everything from chiropractic, acupuncture, massage. It wasn’t until I started swinging (with proper form and techniques) that my back pain went away. I got certified as a kettlebell instructor and went on to get my CrossFit certification. I will always have a kettlebell around.

That’s good to hear. It looks like a great workout but I’ve always wondered about injury with kettlebells.

Looks like it could really tweak something.

Battleropes!!! Another exercise that looks east but kicks your ass.

Every exercise has the potential for injury. Even picking up a box wrong can tweak your back. Proper coaching and training is key for any activity. I’m not disagreeing with you as I have seen my fair share of injuries with a kettlebell but I’ve also seen injuries with barbells and dumbbells

You’re right. Every exercise needs proper form. I think I worry about that so much that it keeps me from trying new techniques until I can get a trainer.

Oh and I don’t hear you disagreeing with me, and even if you were, that’s fine too. Lol. I welcome different opinions.

To be clear, I don’t do CrossFit and think much of it is a toxic orthorexia cult. But I’ve had A LOT of trainers (#blessed) and have basically tried out everything.

I wouldn’t recommend a large kettlebell class like Lifetime has because they don’t correct your form (I found out the hard way!). But there are many small gyms that have very well qualified trainers that you could try to see if you like it and then continue at home when you feel ready.

Yup, I had the same experience at Lifetime—not with kettlebells but with other equipment.

A light walk today and some kettlebell exercises. Is it just me or does everyone exercise more when it's not summer? I stay so busy in the summer that it is hard to stay in my exercise routine.
