Yet, Cheney pointed to emails that Eastman sent, saying that the plot wasn't legal. His admission to that fact in front of the president ensures that Trump knew that his effort to stop the count on Jan. 6 was an illegal one, but he pushed forward anyway.

Cheney said last week that when the subject of the "hang Mike Pence" chants came up at the White House, Trump responded: "Maybe our supporters have the right idea" and that Pence "deserves" it.

During its third day of hearings, the committee presented evidence that lawyer John Eastman, who publicly championed the theory that former Vice President Mike Pence had the authority to certify fake slates of electors to keep the former president in power, admitted privately that it likely wouldn’t stand up in court.

Eastman acknowledged to Pence attorney Greg Jacob that he believed the Supreme Court would likely unanimously strike down the plan, Jacob testified. Eastman seemed to be more confident in an alternate idea for delaying the certification of the election: Pence could send election results back to the states.

Eastman told Jacob that if Pence did certify these electors, the Supreme Court would side against him.

“[Eastman] initially started, ‘Well, maybe you’d only lose 7-2,’ but ultimately acknowledged that, no, we would lose 9-0. No judge would support his argument,” Jacob testified.

Jacob went on to testify about discussions with eastman, wherein eastman's thinking was that the SC wouldn't go near the events (but if they did they'd undoubtably rule against him); Jacob described what he believed would be the short-term outcome of eastman's proposals... utter political chaos, a virtual revolution in the streets, and vry disturbing long-term impacts.

eastman KNEW his theory, his plan, was illegal, unconstitutional, and a total fucking over of the American people's vote; he and trump wanted to establish, for the first time in American history, one person to have the power to decide who becomes President of the USA... the vice president; in this case, it would have been the Vice-president who would have been on the losing political side, declaring his side won and that trump was still President. The precedent that would have set...

The committee also revealed Thursday that Eastman requested a pardon from Trump in the wake of the attack on the U.S. Capitol.

Couy Griffin, Republican county commissioner, founder of Cowboys for Trump, and personal friend of Marjorie Taylor Greene, was found guilty Tuesday of entering a restricted area on 1/6/21.

He arrived at the courthouse in a truck towing a horse trailer.
