The latest Covid variant is 1.5 times more contagious than omicron and already circulating in almost half of U.S. states. The omicron subvariant, known as BA.2, is 1.5 times more transmissible than the original omicron strain, according to Danish scientists.

Of course. We were getting bored with Omicron. Let's keep the cash rolling!

Variants aren't evolved from profit considerations. The more people infected and the longer they are infected, the more variations. With Omicron, I'm fairly certain the number of variants is under discovered.

That being said..a variant more transmissible than Omicron is insane.

Of course they are. Didn't you see the thread about the free masks and tests? The money train steams on!

We never got masks and tests for the flu.

no, and flu has vaccines and doesn't kill almost 1 million of your fellow Americans in 2 years

How many people does flu kill yearly?
In the United States alone, the CDC estimates that more than 200,000 people are hospitalized each year with the flu or with flu-related complications. More than 36,000 people die. The World Health Organization has determined that the flu kills between 250,000 to 500,000 people each year.

manufacturing companies make money for manufacturing goods. are you suggesting they shouldn't? unless there's price-gouging involved, which should be stamped on HARD, that's American capitalism for you.

according to the WHO, the WORLDWIDE deaths from influenza are 1/4 to 1/2 of the numbers who have died in America from covid in the past 2 years.
If it's 250,000 annual influenza deaths worldwide, that means (half of America's stats for 2 years being @500,000) American covid deaths in one year DOUBLE that. In a very bad influenza year (worldwide) the numbers are equal to JUST America's covid deaths.

THIS is why masks and vaccines.

PLUS: influenza has been around a long long long long time and mankind as a species has developed some natural resistance. That's not the case with a novel coronavirus.

The 2017-2018 flu season was the most deadly in the past decade with a CDC estimate of 61,000 deaths. The FluSurv-NET data for 2018 totaled nearly 15,000 in-hospital influenza-associated deaths.

In the last decade, 2011-2012 was the least deadly, with 12,000 deaths, according to CDC data.

Influenza mutations are frequent, outbreaks occur annually, and new vaccines are needed every year. I don’t recall any outcry or massive misinformation campaigns against them.

And how many of those with the flu had pre existing conditions? The numbers are inflated because big pharma wants to sell flu shots and remedies. :)
