man fatally shoots own daughter, thinking she was intruder

This is a local story for me. Tragic, though I guess the dad will be going on tour with Kyle Rittenhouse soon, so it's not a total loss.

i'm sure the parents will be entirely heartbroken over this. what a thing to have to live with. But it didn't have to happen. He should have checked where anyone else was in the house (family)...presumably he knew his wife was either in the bedroom with him initially, or hiding in an agreed spot, but he/they should have checked their daughter was in bed as expected before shooting ANY weapon.

no doubt the gun-crazies will think the kid brought this on herself. well, kids are kids and do stupid things. It's the responsibility of the adults to adult.

As gun rights advocates have pointed out time after time, the daughter would be alive today if only she had been armed. She would then have been in the position to gun down her father first.

This is a very sad story. I am sure that the father is inconsoleable. I would not be surprised if this is something that he will never forgive himself for.

But, he did nothing wrong doing what thought was defending his home.

There is no denying the fact that the world is peppered with bad people. Listen to some true crime stories to get a sickening view of the dangers that lurk in the shadows of our neighborhoods. There are people out there who take children. There are people out there who will rape, torture and murder just for their own sadistic pleasure. Evil, horrible people exist, and they continue to prey upon the innocent because not enough homeowners shoot to kill when they are detected.

This is a tragedy, and it could have been avoided. Bad decisions were made, but this man defending his home was not one of them.

It's not the first and won't be the last time I've heard of such a thing. My coach in Highschool nearly killed his kids just like this.... moral of the story....dopies with guns that have no training can exercise their freedumb to kill their own families.
 
if the father believed there may have been an intruder inside the house, why didn't he–or the girl's mother–immediately check on her safety and whereabouts? what if this feared non-existent intruder had been murdering their daughter in her bedroom, or raping her, or abducting her?

what if she'd just been wandering the house finding a snack, or using the bathroom, or finding a better book to read?

his not checking on her first put his own kid in the worst danger, delivered from his own gun.

kids climbing back in through a window where they forgot their keys and didn't want to wake their parents... kids out beyond their agreed upon time to return and, again, not wanting to wake irate parents... teenager sneaking outside for a smoke, yada yada yada
 
Half the girls in my high school would be dead if their dad's were as irresponsible as this fuckknuckle.
 
Never forget BTK. He is the reason why everyone needs to lock and secure their doors and windows every single night.

"The Otero family was the first of Dennis Rader's victims. BTK enjoyed "trolling" looking around for potential "projects". He spotted Julie and Josephine Otero one day while walking. Rader pulled up a chair and watched the young boy die. Josephine [age 11] was the last one to die. Rader forced her down into the basement and put a noose around her neck and told her she would be joining them in heaven. Rader hung her from a pipe in the basement. He left her partially undressed and then masturbated over her legs, leaving semen on the pipe. Afterwards Rader cleaned up and took some belongings and remembrances. He took the family car and drove it to a parking lot and left the car there and threw the keys on the roof of the store."

This is not fiction.
