It was emergency supplies bought in advance for an unexpected emergency. I have shit at home that I set aside for a shitty day and when the shitty day never comes I give the expired shit to a friend who has animals and I buy new stuff. This was not anyone's fault.

I recall some similar issue a few years back with trying to give away expired food and no one wanted it.

Which made me look and here is a progressive article denouncing the notion of giving away food aid because it upsets the food markets of poor countries:

It seems on blush a great idea to give away emergency food to needy people. But as the article above says the effect is to destabilize poor countries in particular.

Think of it like giving money to some homeless guy. It might feel good to do so but if you stop and think about it giving cash to homeless people generally enables them to remain homeless.

The homeless guy might even buy drugs or alcohol and harm himself. Or worse.

The thinking person seeks to ban drugs like fentanyl, oxy, and heroin which contribute to homelessness and the thinking person doesn't give money directly to people whose capabilities for sound decision making are clearly compromised. You give the money to a reputable charity that helps people escape homelessness.

The bottom line is that this food was paid for to be distributed to those in need. Not only that, but our government was on track to distribute the food until this administration fired everyone and withdrew support to do so. The reason they are burning it is directly related to that.
