I was too young for Connery, Moore looked boring, not really a Pierce Bronson fan so I never watched any of them. Last week, I started the Daniel Craig version with Casino Royale and will finish with Spectre tonight. I'm really enjoying them.

What are your favorite non-Craig-era Bond flicks? I grabbed all of the Connery ones and will start those this week. Are any of the others good?

Not really (though you'll hear from Roger Moore detractors, but the man turned Bond into a parody and I'm not a fan.)

After you finish with Connery (and Daniel Craig) watch On Her Majesty's Secret service.
 
Probably the only one I remember by name was You Only Live Twice.


I think I preferred Derek Flynt and Matt Helm.

Thunderball has always been sissy's favorite, thought Pierce was going to make a good one but a big disappointment. Not a liker of any the rest, they just don't seem to have what Connery had.
 
I grew up with all the bond films and have to say those early Connery films are the best, except strangely the first, Dr.No. The next three are the classics, From Russia with Love, Goldfinger and Thunderball. Lazenby was wooden, (but Diana Rigg delicious!) Moore showed some promise but was often let down by overly elaborate sets and production. Tim Dalton did some good films but lacked charisma. Brosnan was certainly a pretty boy, but also TOO cool and great productions, but the screenplays were derivative and jaded. Daniel Craig brought a new toughness to the character, but shit, he has the charm of a fridge. Looking forward to seeing the latest film, not opened here yet in Austraila, like almost everything here, it has been cancelled cos covid. It's like living in a cave. Connery returned to do 'Never say never again' in 1983 and I have to say, though a rehash of Thunderball is a fine, fun flick with a super hot actress, Barbara Carrera as a baddie. Connery had lost none of his charm and proved HE is the real Bond! Sadly missed.
Like to write a new spy thriller sometime, set in 1963. Can you guess the plot?
 
Live And Let Die. It has everything. Voodoo, sharks, Jane Seymour doing tarot and best ever Bond scene...Mr Smarmy running over the crocs backs. And fab theme song.

It's the only one I'll watch. Oh and Casino Royale to perve on Mads Mikkelsen.
 
Goldfinger 1964....Thunderball..1965...Sean Connery...one of my favorites...the music scores are fabulous....

Yes, Mads Mikkelson has to be one of the best Bond villains. Sinister! Very different character to one in the book I feel, (older, fat). The music score is iconic. So 1960's!
I enjoy the fight in 'From Russia.." Great buildup thru the film. Robert Shaw is suitably cold and menacing. Daniela Bianchi so sexy.
Will the movies ever happen again? Or has DVD taken over?

Yup.

Also, Skyfall's theme song is great. It's like a cross between an original + a tribute to Bond theme songs. (The movie is sort of like that too.)
 
Probably 'Live and Let Die' (Moore) but Sean was by far and away the best Bond. As we're talking the actors I'll give you my verdict (and let's leave David Niven out of this!)

Connery: Ticked every box; tall, dark, handsome, muscular, great actor, not remotely effeminate

Lazenby: Certainly looked the part and his only movie effort was great film...but the cunt couldn't act

Moore: Despite making more movies than any sadly he turned it into a parody. Didn't look anywhere near 'hard' enough

Dalton: Beautifully spoken and was very close physically to the Bond in Fleming novels. Sadly at that time he had to be too PC for various reasons. Great actor though

Brosnan: Way too pretty and completely unconvincing. Wimpy physique

Craig: Short, blond, low cheekbones and physically all wrong. But the scripts, strict diet/ exercise and huge budget meant they were fine films. I always though he resembled Sid James tbh
 
Sid James as Bond. Imagine. With that laugh. Or Charles Hawtry!

Timothy Dalton has always got on my tits, find him a bit of a sap, yet strangely I think he was the best Heathcliff.

Agreed. Lazenby was so-so as Bond (but what a great story his is), but the villainy - Telly Savalas - was second to none.
