If Trump is going to step down, it probably won't be until after the Senate runoff races are finished, being much more likely if the Senate goes Dem.

I could see Trump doing it just for the troll factor; wait until a few days before the inauguration, until all of the 'Biden 46' paraphernalia has been printed.

It is harder to campaign succesfully if so, but even that is not disqualifying. An imprisoned felon got 42% of the vote in WV against Obama in the 2012 Democratic primary.

If Trump resigns, Pence would be President. Both Houses of Congress would have to approve Pence's replacement. Not gonna happen with the House controlled by democrats.
