The post election autopsy showed that race was THE defining factor in 2016, and that the "whitelash" from the BLM protests, subsequent riots, and attacks on police provided just enough momentum for Trump to slime his way into the White House.

I honestly believe if the George Floyd protests (and others), had not devolved into rioting and looting fests, Trump would have been defeated by a landslide in this election.

There's no going back, but people can learn from both elections going forward, and take measures to avoid repeating the same mistakes.

If police forces are expected to weed out overzealous or racist cops, then organized protests should be expected to weed out opportunistic looters. The bad ones in both groups are obscuring the mission and the message each is trying to convey to the public at large.

Ultimately, the goal is a more perfect union, not civil war like some advocate for.

Clyburn is another washed up career politician living in the past. Very little of the rhetoric coming from the Left seems to be the conciliatory offerings from the Party led by the great uniter, one of his basal promises - they seem to now be defined by the divide and exclusion that they can maintain. I think the intent here is now not to unite as much as it is to create a boogyman which they now can play off of in anticipation of failed future policies, i.e., we had the best of intention and the purest of motives, but those over on the dark side caused our "lack of substantial progress."

As much as I dislike Trump I do not agree with this thinking. It's wrong and presumptuous to think you know what motivated someone to vote for a candidate without asking them.

People have very different ideas and make very different assumptions about how the world works. People have different ideas about, for example, what's the best way to improve race relations. A person is not a racist just because their ideas differ from yours. I know people who voted for Trump and their reasons have nothing to do with race.
