The A Song from My Story, a Story for My Song Support Page

I love the idea of this event and hope it generates some interest among authors. I literally just finished a first draft for a story that fits the event criteria, and though I didn’t start writing with the event in mind, I’ll likely enter it. I had to close the document just now, lest I begin the editing process tonight! The song is Adele’s When We Were Young.

I finished my first draft today as well!

The song's "She Bangs The Drums" by the Stone Roses.

I think I've got the first paragraph of this one nailed. Now I just have to write the rest of it!

Is this the thread where I'd ask if someone would be willing to peek/edit my story since it's 'contest' related? Or should I take it over to the Editor's Forum?

Maybe Editor’s? But now that we’re here, what do you have (how many words) and what do you want done with it? I for one can’t edit English, because it isn’t my first language.

It's in English, however I will take it over to Editor's to avoid clogging up this thread.

The "worst" thing about writing this story is that you end up going down a musical rabbit hole, via YouTube or Spotify, that either has you feeling fantastic, nostalgia, or melancholy. Possibly all three.

I would like to submit one work for both Halloween and for this theme. I don't want to wait until Oct 19 to submit for this theme as I want to submit on Oct first for the Halloween theme. How do I do this?

Are you saying you want to submit the same piece for a contest and for this anthology (which isn't a contest)? I don't think that's possible - a story gets single billing in these events.

Your story will probably get more visibility in the Halloween Contest. I'd submit there, iaw the instructions in the Halloween thread.

EB, there was a discussion about making stories for one event also eligible for the Halloween contest. (However, it wasn't the Story for a song/A song for my story event.) Further, I'm not sure what was decided in that regard. I THINK Laurel approved it, but I wouldn't want to speak out of turn and state that as fact. It was the event about the antiquities shop... Perhaps the organizer of the event could clarify that? I thought it was a unique approach, something I haven't seen done before.

Quite right, there was.

Laurel had said she'd allow an already published story to go into the Covid themed contest. I tried to submit two chapters of my covid story (published before the contest was even thought about) joined together as a single submission but got knocked back. So I grumped for ten seconds and didn't bother.

It was the Amorous Goods event. From jaF0's invitation:

Another thing to keep in mind is that there is a Halloween story contest happening in October. Authors can enter their Amorous Goods tale in both the Halloween contest AND the Amorous Good anthology. Since the challenge is not a contest, there's no conflict.

The event is not a contest, so there is no reason someone can't enter their story in both.

YOU? GRUMPED? Never!!! ;):D

Amorous Goods! That's it! Thank you, NW. (When you're older than dirt... everything seems like an antiquity; even amorous goods!) ;)

Speaking of Amorous Goods and antiquity, I recently (OK, sometime in the last year or two) saw photos of some paleolithic stone objects that were thought to be the oldest known dildos. They looked about right.

The rules and guidelines for the “song” challenge clearly state that these stories may be submitted for both Halloween and the challenge. My question still stands: how can I do both when the start date for the challenge is nearly at the end of the submission time range for Halloween?

If you go to Literotica’s homepage under “News” and click on the highlighted “Song” info under author challenges, you are brought to a page titled “Coming soon: A Song from my ...” Near the bottom is a section titled “Rules and guidelines” and there it specifically states is is ok to submit to both.

Dates for submission start on Oct 19 and dates for submission in the Halloween contest stop on Oct 22. That means there is a four day overlap to submit both.

However, in the contest information, submitting to a contest rather late during its window is not recommended. So the questions remain: Is it possible to submit to both? How does one tag a story so that the site guru(s) know that it belongs to both the challenge AND the contest? Is it possible to submit in early Oct for the contest and have the story be still recognized as a candidate for the challenge after the 19th?

Thank you.

Thanks for that info! I'm sure the participants will appreciate knowing it. Since this is a new twist (submitting in two story links), until Laurel clarifies the 'how to's', one could assume you'd just put both requests together in the Notes field. (But you know what they say about making assumptions...) Laurel is very good about returning PM so I'm sure she'll respond soon with details. In the meantime, everyone keep writing! I cannot wait to read the submissions for all THREE of these events/ contest. Shout out to Ruben for making that request of Laurel.

Uh...right now, I'm picturing something like a granite mortar and pestle??? PLEEEEZ tell me that even cave men had SOME mercy... With all that volcanic action going on, surely they could find a nice smooth giant DIAMOND for that! (Which would truly explain WHY diamonds were, and still are, a girls best friend. ;)
