Once upon a time, Ayn Rand-reading, red-baiting Republicans denounced Soviet Russia as an evil superpower intent on destroying the American way of life.
My, how things have changed.
The Grand Old Party has quietly become the pro-Russia party — and not only because the party’s standard-bearer seems peculiarly enamored of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The Republicans are now spouting Russian propaganda and blocking election security bills that would help defend against Russian meddling in future U.S. elections. The NRA has been caught laundering Russian money and then giving it to Republicans lawmakers.
Intelligence officials informed members of the House of Representatives that Russia is interfering in the 2020 campaign to try to get Trump re-elected, mirroring the country’s meddling in the 2016 race.
Rather than take actions to protect America from Russian interference, the Republicans have attacked American intelligence officials for daring to brief Congress on the Russian threat in the first place. Apparently speaking ill of Russia is a sin that the Republican Party of today will not tolerate.
The United States is under attack.
Russia is aiding Trump is the 2020 election, intelligence officials told lawmakers. Trump's immediate concern is not that the United States is under attack. No, Trump's immediate concern is that Democrats might exploit the news that he's being aided by a hostile foreign government.
