Literotica Awards

Unless you're part of a circle of writers nominating each other, I suggest that you advertise to your fans about the literotica awards.

I can only nominate one person per category, but that's going to leave a lot of authors who deserve recognition for their work out in the cold. As a fan of well written words, I hope that some of you reach out to your fans and let them know that this award event exists.

In the spirit of the awards event, please do not fight. This is a suggestion for writers who feel left out of the huddle because most literotica users do not even know the forum exists.

Why would anyone bother to do anything with this? Nothing's come of it for the last two consecutive years--and for at least two recent years before that that I can remember. For years, the nominations have been divisive and have pretty much come up with a "who the hell is that?" response, many of them obviously made by a just-opened alt account of the nominee. All it's done is cause fighting and the Web site has not been able to deliver a result for two years straight now. Just ditch it (and ignore it). It most likely only survives as yet another claimed program of the Web site that's nonexistent or defunct. Just painful to go through again.

I made the one nomination that I knew immediately. The others will require thinking to remember if anything stood out that was actually posted last year. Half the time I think of something, only to stare at the date in bewilderment when it was posted two or three years ago.

This even has been ignored for the last few years? That's disappointing. I've been reading stories for several years now, but I've never gone to the bulletin board until recently. Better to know this now, but I'll still nominate my favorite authors, even if nothing come from it.

Mmhmm.

I'm just gonna keep on a-writin'. Thanks, OP, but I'm not going to lose any sleep over this, one way or the other.

Some of us have been around long enough to see the haphazardness of programs here. Ones like this, because they are so loose and divisive, are, I believe, counterproductive in supporting either the authors here (the nominations over the years have been highly subjective, which is the nicest thing I can say about them) or the readers, most of whom have no idea there are such contests and don't have enough skin in the game to give a hoot. They certainly aren't in a position to give a good and fair assessment over the breadth and different categories of the file here. They just nominate and vote for their friends or themselves. Very elementary school.

You're right, and you're right to be cynical, but I take the view, what the hell, it's another tiny vehicle for shameless self promotion. I just self-nominated in one category, mainly so it wasn't utterly dominated by the fairly obvious fan club. I couldn't be bothered asking someone else to nominate - it's so bloody obvious when that happens, so why pretend? It'll be interesting to see if does any good. I suspect not, but in my mind, it's no different to any other contest.

The list Laurel has up now is usually the ones most argued over and self promoted either by the hard core fans or alts.

The next list, if she gets it finished, will be the monthly winners and high scorers by category. All categories. That comes from votes only. Of course you have to go through and weed out all the chapter stories, which aren't really stories until they are complete. That was supposed to be the way many years ago but it still hasn't happened.

I've wondered about these contests. The biggest problem, as I see it, is that response rate seems to be low, which means results are easy to game, and even if they're not gamed the response rate is so low that it likely is not representative of author or reader opinion on the stories.

On the other hand, as EB says, it's one more thing to get exposure to stories. I had a BDSM story in 2016 that was nominated in its category for that year. Just getting the nomination dramatically increased views to the story 7 months after it had been published. So, I was glad for that, whether it was sensible or fair or not.

I don't have a very strong view about it, one way or another.

I don't do awards or contests. I scanned the other thread and do not recognize most of the 'nominees' at all. Don't recall ever even seeing their IDs anywhere.

That's pretty much my attitude. If I get mentioned for nomination and it draws a few reader's eyes, I'm happy. That's why I was disappointed that the 2017 awards never happened. I have no illusions about winning anything.

I've been reading the threads with amusement at the drama and cliquishness (is that a word, or am I just butchering the spelling?). I get the impression that if you're no in the In Crowd, and don't write for a particular category, there's no way you'll get noticed. I did make a nomination for influential writer. And I would have seconded Chloe's nomination in that category, except the rules say it wouldn't count.

Even if it doesn't amount to anything, making the nominations does let other writers know that you appreciate their work.

Laurel promotes cliques. She may not mean to, but she does.

To me the Literotica Awards look like the Invitational Awards, and there's nothing wrong with that, I may nominate someone from one of those events. They're some really good stories in there, but I also like authors who have never come into the forum. I'm not even a writer. I just read the words of others. Forget this thread exists.
