I've been toying with an idea for one of these challenges, but I couldn't find more info than "message Laurel" regarding how one goes about organizing one. I'd prefer to know some more details before I make that step, for example what exactly is expected of me as the organizer. I guess they're judged like normal contests (votes rather than picked by the organizer/a judge), so what exactly DO you do as organizer?

If there's a sticky or other source of information regarding this that I missed, I'd appreciate a pointer to it. The Author-Organized Challenge List 2019 hasn't been very helpful, as it is more about what the challenges are rather than what goes into organizing them.

Basically you write up an outline of the event and the target go live and submission dates and type of event - open to all or invitational. If Laurel gives you the okay, and it’s open to anyone, start a thread and do a write up similar to the ones Vix and I have done and start soliciting authors to write as well if you like.

If it’s invitational, start pm’ing authors you want to invite. The events aren’t judged, altho you could ask Laurel if you wanted that, and see what she says, and there’s no prizes. Before go live you’d also need to do an event write up for Laurel to use when it goes lives. Laurel does the grunt work of putting everything up on the day.

You also need a note for the note field so she can find the stories when they’re submitted, and an event tag for tagging. The hard work is encouraging people to write 🙀

To add onto Chloe's excellent summation, you should also keep up to date on other upcoming events to avoid event clutter. Choose a date that you believe will be relatively free.

If you want to be diligent, you should post regular updates and reminders.

Good luck!

Thanks Chloe and Bebop, that was very helpful. I think I'll wait until next year's contest and challenge schedules are made public, so I can better pick a date. Doesn't sound too bad though, I'll think about it some more but good chance I'll actually get it set up with Laurel later.
