America is experiencing the first ever “criminal presidency”.
Even before America’s national election in 2016, Donald Trump had been caught breaking the law many times. Trump scammed thousands of Americans out of millions of dollars with his “Trump University” and was sued for fraud, Trump also scammed customers out of millions of dollars with his “Trump Ocean Resort” and he was sued for fraud, he has been sued thousands of times by contractors for breach of contract when they did work for Trump, but then Trump refused to pay them.
Over the decades Trump has left long lines of angry customers, contractors and vendors who have been cheated and defrauded by him.
So, even BEFORE the 2016 election, we knew that Trump was a criminal, but millions of Americans voted for him anyway.
And during the past two years, we’ve seen Trump incite violence against Mexicans, against journalists, against Hillary Clinton, against Christine Blasey Ford and others. We’ve also seen him flagrantly violate the emoluments clause and use the White House as a tool to funnel money into his family’s business interests.
There is also evidence (currently being looked into) that Trump has engaged in money laundering.
Much more recently; in April of 2019, a redacted version of the Mueller report was released which gives voice to other crimes committed by Trump, including obstruction of justice and witness tampering.
And yet millions of Americans still support Trump. They’ve been brainwashed into believing that he’s a victim and they identify and live vicariously through each criminal act Trump commits, almost as if each unpunished crime was their own personal victory over the establishment.
Ever since the Civil War, there have been millions of Americans who are willing to place law-breakers up on a pedestal. This is especially true in the South, where they have spent decades resenting "the North" and "the Feds" for daring to outlaw slavery, outlaw segregation, get rid of poll taxes, get rid of the Jim Crow laws, pass the Voting Rights Act, pass the Civil Rights Act and prosecute the KKK and other right-wing terrorists for lynching black people, burning down black churches, killing civil rights leaders etc.
In states like Mississippi, Alabama, Kentucky, Tennessee and West Virginia, they somehow think that white men who can no longer own slaves or legally kill entire black families are the victims of white liberals who live in the North and don't understand "the Southern way of life".
Laws passed by the federal government keep them from living the sort of lives they want to live, so now they see the liberals in Congress, Democratic presidents, the FBI, the U.S. Marshals the Justice Department, and anybody else who enforces the law to be "the enemy".
Seeing white men like Donald Trump, Brian Kemp, Roy Moore, Mitch McConnell and Bill O’Reilly break the law and get away with it, allows them to feel like they've scored some sort of indirect win over those damn "Northern liberals".
And these are not one or two bad apples. There are MILLIONS of Americans who support criminals in this country, just so long as the criminals are white and hate the same people that they hate. As further evidence of this claim, I present to you polling data which shows that 77 percent of Trump voters believe Trump should remain in office even if it’s proven that Trump conspired with the Russians to secretly manipulate the 2016 election.
By my math, that means that more than 48 million Americans would support a (white supremacist) criminal who conspired with a foreign enemy to thwart the will of the American voters.
Or to put it another way, it means 48 million criminal accomplices.
How are we supposed to run a fully-functioning democracy when we have more than 48 million Americans with no respect for the laws that are the basis of our democracy?
