A close friend said she appreciated me cheering her up today, but I wasn't aware I was doing that. I thought I was just being silly and stupid. I love a very subtle win/win - two people feeling good without trying.

A while back I reached out to a former colleague and good guy and encouraged him to apply to my team for an opening. He was hired on as a contractor.

I also encouraged a bestie to come from her company and apply for an opening. She also got hired onto the team as a contractor.

Our team opened up two full time positions and I found out today that they both got hired.

And it's been a long time coming after some very rough times. So it feels earned. Life is good when you get to where you're supposed to be.

I used to tell this story when I was teaching adults how to be Scout Leaders....not sure if this fits the bill of your thread or not, but here goes.

In ancient days, goods traveled by cart over trails. Due to the heat and length of travel, meats and goods often spoiled and turned bad during the trip. So the ancients discovered they could be more productive and have better goods at market if they used boats to transport the stuff. The ocean temperature helped keep the goods cool and extended the time the goods stayed fresh - along with shortening the travel time.

But new issues cropped up. Most notably the tide. Ship Captains now had to time port entry based upon the tides. Ports weren't like modern ports of today. They had to throw a rope around a rock to tie off before using a plank to get on/off the ship. Mooring next to a ragged rock was tricky business. So they had to time the tides.

Clever Captains would let the tide take them in without sails (or minimum sails) to slowly approach the rocks. That meant they needed to watch for the moment when the tides was just turning and starting in. If they weren't paying attention, they'd miss the tide and have to wait - possibly spoiling the product and losing money. The term used at the time for this observation was, "Ob Portu."

As with many ancient words and terms, today's variation of it has morphed and changed a little. Today the term Ob Portu is now known as, "opportunity." Take advantage of life as the tide is coming in. It might be too late if you wait and tide recedes.
