The Official Authors' Hangout Summer Lovin' Support Thread 2018

Ahh - that makes sense as to why this thread shares info about some of the votes, but I couldn't figure out where they were pulling the info from.
I have 150+ favorites in this summer contest, so i think i'm doing ok, but maybe that's assuming a correlation between votes and favorites?
My score keeps bouncing around by a few tenths, so i guess that's the sweep you've been talking about?
Looking forward to seeing the results - this has been a fun experience.

Congrats on entering the fray of your first contest!

Favorites don’t matter in terms of placing in the contest: highest vote score wins. Usually this means 4.85+, based on contests I’ve participated in.
Vote totals and favorites are going to be higher in well-read categories, like your story in I/T. Still, 150+ is very commendable considering you don’t have much backlist and this is your first story in 3 years.
You may see the favorite total drop somewhat, though, as it appears readers also use it as a way to bookmark stories they want to read, then delete the fav after they have finished it. After the announcement, the winning stories often see large upticks of favs that reduce after the bookmarkers have finished reading.

I hadn’t even noticed that link. I see it takes you to ‘awards’ too, if you’re interested in the latest results from 2015.

Your story is doing very well by every measure. You can see its vote count when you check out the I/T toplist. It has a high vote to view ratio, which means people liked it after starting it enough to finish it. That's partly also the result of the fact that it's short -- readers are more likely to finish a short story and vote on it. 150+ favorites is a lot for a story that hasn't been published that long.

I also published an incest story in the summer contest. The score hasn't really been affected by sweeps, from what I can tell. I know I received a few 1 votes shortly after publication, and I imagine they were swept away, but I never saw a noticeable bump in the score.

I was amused by the fact that your story was about camping with a sister. I was working up a very similar concept when I saw your story -- you beat me to the punch!

Update: OK, I just read your story, and it's downright eerie, because my story also was going to involve a backpack in the Sierra Nevada and also was going to have them getting together in a sleeping bag to avoid hypothermia! Back to the drawing board . . .

hahah - are you me?

I never really paid attention to all the links under the Explore menu. That's extremely useful. I've always found navigation on this site to be somewhat frustrating and that one link solves a lot of navigation problems.

Thanks Kethandra - appreciate the kind words. I've been too focused on creating content instead of writing my own stories - hoping to change that over the next six months to get that backlist up a bit.
I'll peruse this forum to see if there's much discussion about that river site that sells all the books (and everything else...) - would love to see how to make some beer money while writing some sexy shorts.

you really 'south of weed'?

Cheers to all who participated in the Summer Lovin' contest.

All of my stories ended up in the H (two at 4.71 and one at 4.76), so contest goals met, with a big assist from the sweeps.

Congratulations and good to see you guys there.

And a huge hug for Kethandra.

I've just contributed to my first ever story on Literotica. I co-wrote 'A Dangerous Game', with Carnal_Flower. It didn't win the competition, but it's score is now above 4.8, which I'm really pleased with.

There isn't much of a point to this post, I'm just really pleased with the great reception my first story got (although a considerable portion of that is probably down to Carnal_Flower's existing following).

*Although now I've said this, some people will probably go and give it some deliberately poor scores to drag the total down.

Thanks for that. Still a noob iguess.

Congrats to the winners. Well done.

I entered three stories. They did ok. One (Tourist Season...) got a red H today following the sweep, so I'm pretty pleased.

I have an idea for Halloween and the start if one for the Holidays. I'm also working on sequels to Tourist Season and my Geek Pride story.

This is how it starts, right? I'm an addict.

Hi Tan

I haven't written a story in eight days. Just a Haiku. But not a story. Well, not a long one. Just a couple of pages. Lit pages. OK, seven Lit pages. But I can quit any time I want. After the next four chapters. And the prequel. And the spinoff. And the next contest. Hey, where are you all going?

Good start indeed and what a great way to get your feet wet. Congratulations on a great opening score.

Awesome, that's a great start! Congrats to you as well.

Congrats to the winners and all who entered.

One of my stories nudged 4.5 once and the other finished stronger than I figured it would. The main thing was the 70 author's favorites. I hoped for 50 so I met that goal.

I have a couple started for Halloween but it is not one of my favorite contests.

Congrats to the winners!

Mine ended up on track to be most votes of any of my stories and ended at 4.8. Very unusual for D/d. Many thanks to my writing partner Relentless O.

Now let the trolling begin (again).

I guess Incest readers dont mind "asshole" protaganists.

Thank you for continuing to pester me into trying to write, after I procrastinated and prevaricated for so long.
