The Official Authors' Hangout Summer Lovin' Support Thread 2018

No. You have to track the changes yourself - the site won't package up the data other than present the latest score, time now.

Bummer. Oh well. It wasn't too bad until the long holiday weekend when I came back to 15 extra votes that I had to try to account for

Depending on the method you use, you can only accurately back-calculate the vote to either 50 votes of 100 votes, depending on your method. If you have 140 or so votes then you can relax. The chance is pretty high that your result in wrong anyway.

Yeah, that's the one I was talking about.

Snap. :D

Anyhow, me, I'm really happy with how my little entry is doing. The comments have been really great and the additional followers as well. I'm kind of amused at those votes though. I've been up in the 4.7*'s about three times as far as I can tell and within a day or so, dooooowwwwwwn we go. Sort of skydiving really LOL. As always, the shakedown at the end's going to be fun.

Oh good! That takes all the pressure off worrying then! :D

I really loved your entry. It was a great story and I could tell you really were into writing it!

Oh thank you. I've never tried writing skydiving before, I always thought it'd be too hard to describe, especially with the little technical bits but I think it came out quite well and the comments from guys that've skydived have been just great. Really it was worth it just for that by itself.

I just submitted my story. The creative process is a weird thing. I gave up trying to finish a story I've been working on for a year, because I didn't think I could get it done before the deadline. Then I started an entirely new story and finished it in six days. Whatever.

Don't rush the big stuff. If you've been writing a year, then it'll finish in it's own good time. I'm eighteen months into my stupid big thing, and I'm pretty sure I'm into the last chapter with an epilogue to come, but even now, I'm not forecasting a completion date.

It had better be soon, though. I've got other characters patiently waiting around in an EB cafe, waiting their turn. Luckily for me, Adam is a patient man. It's the woman at the other table who's getting toey, wants to be written.

Curious -- how long is it taking stories in this competition to get published once submitted? I just submitted mine. It's only a bit over 2 Lit pages, it's definitely in the right category, and I don't foresee any snags re content or punctuation.

So, let me get this straight. In addition to the Trolls and 1-Bombers, we have writers who will deliberately vote another story down in order to "win".

For $150?

A HUNDRED AND FIFTY BUCKS!?

WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK?

COME ON GUYS AND GALS: PLAY NICE!

(I'll stop shouting now).

You're making me feel guilty for voting for my self.

Oh yeah, I submitted my story tonight. It's called "Tourist Season..."

I have wondered this, too. What kind of low-life toad of a person do you have to be to go to great lengths to win $150 for a porn story?

But by all means vote for yourself and don't feel guilty.

I really don’t think it’s the big bucks, though I have always found something worthwhile to spend any prize money on.

It’s more for the win/ego boost/bragging right. The only reason I say that is because I have seen lots of people cheat and over-compete in many different contests in many fields of interest from cooking to sports to table games when there was no money at all to be won.

Usually faster than a regular story. Stories submitted near the deadline can go up in hours. This time my story took two days, but the deadline wasn't close.

I was about to say the same.

I submitted mine about 10pm Eastern Tuesday. It's up now, 5am Eastern. That's pretty quick I'd say.

It's a COMPETITION, not a random lottery. Winning it or just not coming in last, means you've beaten someone, anyone. If it's something you care about doing well, beating someone is validation that you're doing it right.

I'm a new writer, and while my submission, (The Best Summer Job Ever) is certainly a long shot, any exposure, readership or tips and advice I get out of it will help me on my future stories.

Lol. It’s been a steady, slow drip of down-votes for the last 2-3 days. They look like 2s or 3s rather than 1-Stars. The most silly, predictable, largely futile part of this game.

I agree, and I enjoy competition. I like seeing my story do well. I'd enjoy placing in one of the story contests, although I don't think it's going to happen this time.

But I would feel like a pathetic loser if I cheated to try to win a contest for best erotic story where the stakes are so low. I would feel pathetic to cheat regardless, but especially about something like this.

Sounds like it's happening across the board. I was pretty steady up until the long holiday weekend and have been ticking down bit by bit ever since. I figured it might just be the end of the honeymoon period with my followers, but it sounds like the timing might also be suspicious. Since finally getting lucky in the last contest after a couple years, I'm mostly tuning out this time, but it's frustrating to watch the same-old losers down-voting good writers (and probably not feeling pathetic about it). I say pour yourself a drink, kick back, and wait for the final sweep. You never know.

Trolls I understand. It's how they get their thrills. But other writer(s)? What's the point? If your writings not good enough to win it's not good enough to win and no amount of vote rigging or playing games is going to improve you. Weird.

Exactly! An honest 4.46, hovering just below a red H, is an opportunity to to get better and really earn a 4.5+. That is, if the votes are real. Constructive comments (they don't all have to be 100% praise) is even better. Winning something like this by cheating is reprehensible.

So let me challenge everyone who sees this on the last day to enter Summer Lovin': leave a thoughtful, constructive comment on a story from the contest. Help a writer to get better. (BTW: I am aware of a number of typos in my entry Tourist Season. I will be looking for an editor or beta reader later).

Good luck everyone. I have a lot of reading to do.

You might want to hold off on that until after the voting closes -- unless you want your comments to influence voters.

And I have another personal best for this contest. I have shaken my compulsive tabular fixation and not looked at any of the story ratings except my own for the entire contest. I'm marveling at my amazing self control. I'm going to celebrate by writing another Loving Wives story. LOL.

Dang, Chloe. I count on being able to check with you to see where things sit in the land of Tabulatoria.
