is there any way, short of putting out a contract, of barring an account from reading/voting on/commenting on your stories. you know who i mean...the one person who consistently leaves such asinine comments that you wonder wtf?

i hate to delete comments that aren't actually malicious but more just off the wall. but i'd have no qualms at all about deleting the person from my life.

I don't know of any way to do that from the user side, short of banning comments altogether.

If the comments are outright abusive, you could report them and the site owners presumably have the power to ban. But if it's just annoyingly stupid, probably not much you can do.

I don't get very many comments, and I don't have anyone who is following my stories and making irrelevant comments. I do have a few odd, out-of-place comments. They tend to be long and rambling. I've always left them if they weren't abusive or factually incorrect.

What I don't have is someone regularly posting comments that are irrelevant nonsense. If that was an established pattern, then I'd delete them.

It is my job to moderate comments on my stories (see site rules). It is not my job to provide a platform where people post nonsense.

this is the problem exactly. an idiot who goes into the gay male section, reads a story whose description makes it plain that it involves gay sex and then posts comments along the line of, "why aren't they having sex with their wives? where are the wives? i wouldn't want to have sex with my son. why are they having sex?"

one comment you can write off as an idiot, when they make a habit of posting similar comments over and over, i think it's time to shut them down.

i don't even think it's meant maliciously, he's just totally out of it.

There are dumb posters with Lit names and really good anonymous reactions, so just banning anonymous comments doesn't actually help.

i've barred the anonymous posters. this particular idiot then began to comment under his member name, the very same comments. i don't get what he's trying to prove unless it is some form of denial.

i assure you, i have a pair. it's just that they get tied in a knot when some jerk off stalks me to put the same inane comments up, no matter how many times i delete them.

but i'm sure that someone as pleasant as you never has to deal with those types, right? and, you're probably oh-so-understanding and patient if you ever do?

And, he once had a guy break into his house with a shoe box full of erasers he claimed was a bomb and was pissed at Stephen King for stealing his stories. (That guy was crazy: erasers don't explode!)

You can see the logic in that though, can't you? To a very literal person, throwing erasers at someone should work.
