President Trump's Commerce Department said Monday evening that the 2020 Census will include a question on citizenship, despite the strong objections of Democrats.

Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross announced his decision to reinstate the citizenship question in a post on the Commerce website. The citizenship question has not appeared on the census since 1950, but Ross argued that collecting citizenship data has been “a long-standing historical practice."

The Department of Justice (DOJ) under Attorney General Jeff Sessions has reportedly pushed for inclusion of the question, arguing that it would allow the the department to better enforce the Voting Rights Act. Census data is used to redraw House districts and the number of House seats each state receives, as well as determining each state’s number of electoral votes in a presidential election.

Democrats have raised concerns that adding the question would result in an inaccurate population count because it would discourage some immigrants from filling out the questionnaire given the Trump administration's crackdown on those in the country illegally.

^^^ First you had to edit this disaster of an attempt at a language.

The shallow end of the pool gathers.

And deepens by dint of volume.

Because they are "citizens," they live here. They are merely "undocumented citizens."

Then you proceed to have double the posts of the next poster.

AND, you have had Rory on iggy for years so it must've been a real bitch to post in his thread. Ya fuckin' dope.

If they're citizens by virtue of being here we can close down the INS and all related federal activity.

Back to the Census: the government can ask whatever it wants, with the exception of how many people live in your residence, you can remain silent.

Your ancestors probably counted their slaves as whole people, just to get more congressmen.

Does one have to ask WHY it was not on the form to start with?

The people as a population and our Government not only have a right to know they NEED to know.

How on earth do you put the needed resources in the right places at the right times and correct mistakes and adjust to trends?

These people need to grow a pair, Government needs to grow a pair make needed rules and start hauling some Motherfuckers off to jail or kick them out.

Enough is enough!

Because the Constitution blah blah blah, slaves weren't citizens but needed to be counted, blah blah blah, natives weren't citizens and didn't need to be counted unless they were taxed, blah blah blah, immigrants take resources too, blah blah blah.

You omitted the importance of maintaining the purity of our precious bodily fluids and thoughts. And the need for a citizen militia because no standing army. And bedbugs. The colonies were FILLED with bedbugs. Why aren't they in the Constitution? Not to mention lice, which is why powdered wigs.

PS: Ever notice that powdered wigs aren't Constitutionally protected? Why?

If you have a better one, I'd like to see it. Besides being the greatest living document ever constructed, it's not w/out faults. It continues to evolve. That takes time.

We've had to overcome our differences to make things happen. To get this far. And as it has the past 250 yrs or so, we have to compromise to find a middle ground. And to do that, we have to stop pointing fingers at each other for this or that.

You'd think this country would at least be middle aged by now - but no - we're going backwards in our adolescence.

The head of the DNC admitted that the Democrats count on the fact that illegals can and do vote when he refer to this as a voter suppression effort.

Are you trying to imply that every living being on the planet is a US citizen, and America therefore is ruling the entire world? Because that's what it's beginning to sound like... it doesn't matter if they are citizens or not.. next it doesn't matter if they're even here or not, just drop by and have a kid here, BINGO... it's a citizen, drive by benefits abound! Hey, can I be an undocumented gun owner?
