I am starting this thread now so that writers have no excuse for not starting a story in plenty of time. The Nude Day contest is still running but Summer Lovin' follows a short time afterwards.

Summer Lovin'
themes: warm weather, summer activities, bikinis, etc.
starts: August 21
closes: September 6
winners announced: September 13

This thread is to SUPPORT and ENCOURAGE authors to enter stories in the Summer Loving Contest. Get your characters hot and bothered. What could go wrong?

There is an advantage to entering stories in one of Literotica's themed contests, apart from the possibility of winning, and that is that your story gets far more exposure and attention than it would normally do.

Some of that attention might be unwelcome, some abusive, but some could be appreciative and helpful.

Is there a post where all of the contests for the year are listed? I remember seeing one months ago, but I have looked for it several times in the past few weeks and haven't found it. It takes me a while to finish a story, trying to fit it in between family activities, so having the dates way in advance is helpful for me. :) Thanks!

Ty, lovecraft68. I was looking for a title of a post/sticky that said "2017 contests" or something like that. lol No wonder I couldn't find it. I will make a note of where it is. ;)

I have one ready. I thought I would announce it early so all my trolls could mark it on their calendar. :D

I have one that fits, but I'm not happy with it, so we'll see if I can fix it in time.

Every year I have little trouble with the fall and winter holiday contests--Halloween through Valentine's day--but the three warm weather contests consistently give me a hard time.

This year I eventually came up with a summer story just by sitting down and looking at the calendar for the three months and thinking long enough. This wasn't a terribly inspiring way to strike up a tale, but the idea seemed sound and so I made myself keep at it, and in the end I'm actually rather happy with the results.

So whenever people ask what to do if they're feeling blocked or uninspired, my answer is: just make yourself write anyway. Sometimes it works out.

With some of my incomplete story drafts I could amend/edit to make them fit almost any one of the themed contests - except April Fool and Nude Day. I find those two themes the hardest.

I'm in the mood for another sweet romance or a down and dirty power coupling. I have to think about it some more as the clock ticks......

I'm going with another sad / happy summer first time romance. Ying and Yang, sweet and sour, summer love and the parting of ways as summer ends.... but my stories always evolve as I write so we will see. And hey, I might even make the deadline. Lol.

I'll go with a bit of menage-a-trois, ffm. It's a story I've had for a while, time to put it on paper.

Hah! I'm busy removing all the April Fool references from a summertime story I tried to shoe-horn into a AF entry and gave up on. It is much more natural as a Summer story, though I have to redo completely the trick-fools surprise ending I wrote.

If that gets done, I have another natural for this contest that I gave up on while trying to force a Nude Day theme into it.

Shoe-horning and forcing are bad. Tweaking, adapting? They're good. It's a question of the degree of change necessary.

I think that MY entries for April Fool and Nude Day have to be written specifically for those contests. The other contests? I can adapt a general story, even for Halloween.

Generally, I agree, and that's why both stories stalled. However my current Nude Day entry had the ND element added for the contest. In this case it was an easy transition as the story already hinged on a weird multifaceted festival and adding a Nude Day celebration to that event was simple.

I have no idea if I'm going to do the Summer Lovin' contest or not. I've got one started, as well as one for Thanksgiving (yes, I know there is no Turkey Tail contest), but I'm having too much fun with a follow up to my single submission under this handle.

If I do, though, I guess I'll go back to basics with lifeguards and shark attacks. Sort of Baywatch meets Jaws.

Dun Dun

Or maybe something with fairies and a guy who gets a donkey head. ;)

The "Winter Holiday" contest usually has Thanksgiving entries and I haven't heard that readers are horribly offended by it.
I've never really considered the erotic aspects of shark attacks. Donkey heads are another matter.

I've got one I started a couple of years ago, and started working on it again recently, but it's going to need a major re-write. So I should quit screwing around and work on it.

Oh crap, instead of fairy tales I could see a Shakespeare goofball, but there is no way I could do it justice in the time remaining...

I'm going to build my story around a European midsummer festivity but it will have nothing to do with Shakespeare. It's been considered a magical night for centuries so there's plenty of other material to build on.

E.g. There's some Finnish tradition where you are supposed to go swim naked in an oat field at night, and then whoever owned those oatfields would become your future husband.

I can't wait to read that! Good luck.

Happily, I did get a great idea for a Christmas spoof. And gee, I have plenty of time for that.

Remind me I said that in five months......

Happy writing all.

I'm almost in a mood to resume writing. I've a half-written tale, APPLES & ORANGES, about the marriage of two single parents with respectively 3 and 4 kids, mostly of fuckable age, all moving in together. It'll be fun to see how they spend the summer.
