After promising (again) to protect American jobs, the corrupt con artist shows once again he can't do squat. On Thursday, Boeing announced it would be laying off an additional 200 jobs at its South Carolina plant.

Similar to Carrier, where taxpayer money was handed out like candy to a private company to keep jobs around, but ultimately some of those "safe" jobs and others were sent to Mexico, the chaos in Washington continues to harm the country. GM announced 1,250 job losses, Humana 500, Zenefits 430, Fiat Chrysler 3,200 jobs, PaceHealth 500 jobs lost, CSX 1,000 jobs lost. And these were only some of the large job losses which took place one month after the coronation but before the con artist had his first day in office. Since then, job losses throughout the country have kept pace and even ticked up slightly in the most recent reporting period.

In February, before his first day on the job since he hadn't repealed and replaced Obamneycare on day one as he promised, the con artist appeared before Boeing workers and told them, "jobs is one of the primary reasons I'm standing here today as your President, and I will never, ever disappoint you."

After the announcement of jobs cuts, the look of disappointment on the face of workers was clearly evident.

UPDATE: Carrier workers feel betrayed by con artist

After the con artist promised to keep their jobs in the U.S., and after blowing through $7 million of taxpayer money, employees at Carrier are now hot under the collar after being told they're no longer wanted.

A steady downpour today did little to wash away the fact that the jobs of 600 union employees are going south.

"They're going to Monterrey, Mexico," said Robert James, president of the local union.

"That is what he said was not going to happen," James said. "That's what he told all of us."

"And a lot of these people voted for Mr. Trump" with the understanding that he would save their jobs, James added.

In one regard, the con artist didn't lie (finally). He told the workers they would have a good Christmas. Which they did. However, in his usual short-sighted demeanor, he never said anything about the next Christmas.

Mooresville, North Carolina-based home improvement retailer Lowe’s announced Wednesday that it has laid off about 125 employees in the information technology department.

The jobs were cut primarily from the company's corporate headquarters, officials said.

Company officials said most of the jobs will be moved to India.

“Not all of those will be moving,” said Jackie Hartzell, director of public relations, according to the Mooresville Tribune. “We decided to move the responsibility of some of our back-office IT work to our employees in Bangalore (India) to reduce redundancy and respond faster to the changing retail environment.”

5 months into it..............jesus christ.

I can sympathize with those who lost their jobs, but that is part of the normal course. Overall, the unemployment rate has been declining ever since Trump became POTUS. To what degree this is to his credit is unknown. It had been declining even under Obama. :)

I know, right?

I seem to remember back when the Carrier deal was struck that the news was reporting that it wasn't going to be a total save. They were reporting that some 600 jobs would still be going to Mexico. Which is now being reported AGAIN as if it's breaking news in an attempt to promote the false narrative that Trump lied.

Liberals, Leftists, and Liars. They each begin with the letter L. I wonder if that's a coincidence.

Overall, the unemployment rate has been declining ever since ...

I still want to see a TRUE number of those not working and if they're even still looking for work.

Total population (age 15-65) broken down into working (full time, part time), retired, disabled, unemployed but looking, student, etc. Chart should show crossovers too (student working, retired working part time, etc.)

I find it amazing that during Obama's term regarding the lowering unemployment rate, this idea never made it over the horizon. But now that the stats show job numbers rising and the unemployment rate going down to historic lows, everyone on the Left suddenly wants to know how many people are no longer looking for work.

I believe that the Dept of Labor has the statistics you're looking for. If you're that interested, GO LOOK THEM UP YOURSELF. Be sure to wear your rose colored glasses and take a denial pill before you do because you aren't going to like what you find. It doesn't match what you want to believe. Not even close.

I've always preferred to see the real numbers but the books have been cooked for many decades now, probably since the 70s, maybe longer.

I suspect the real number of 'not working' adults is well over 25%, and that the historic lows are basically fiction. In the 40s and 50s, pretty much everybody worked that wanted to.

The number of adults who don't "have a job" is probably closer to 30%. But that doesn't mean they aren't "working".

Day traders, private ebay sellers, garage sale/ flea market vendors are all "jobs". Just not traditional ones.

I know a guy who makes 6 figures/yr buying and selling cars. And that's after costs and overhead. He doesn't have a "job" according to the stats, what he does is just a hobby.

That would be 'self-employed' which would be counted. Remember those people are required to pay income and Medicare taxes on those earnings.

"Required" doesn't mean "do".

To some degree, I would be described the same way, as would some others on the site. I am retired, but I pick up a few bucks selling stories I have written. I don't make much money, but I could still be considered self-employed. I believe there are some authors here who do quite well at this.

"Liberals" commented on the fine print of Trump's Carrier boasts and we were accused of lying, undercutting, sabotaging, etc. Many people pointed out, hey wait a minute, which was seen as partisan squabbling, didn't mean a thing, Trump was great, blah blah blah.

The Trumpsters didn't want to hear it. It was all a big victory for the Liar in Chief.

The media is pointing it out now because it IS breaking news (a) and (b) the Fake News Media has gotten in the habit of following up on Trump's boasts and lies when they can be shown to be boasts and lies because: Fourth Estate and transparency and accountability and all that. Just happened. And us liberals are pouncing on it to say we were right, Trump lied, and you were idiots who believed him.

Kind of like now, when we're pointing out Medicaid is going to be severely cut.

We'll say I told you so when that pans out, too.

Show is where we lied in this little story. In fact, Trump lied, saying

"And by the way, that number is going to go up very substantially as they expand this area, this plant," Mr. Trump said. "So the 1,100 is going to be a minimum number."

It's very hard to see how Trump can get credit for any of this, since he hasn't really done anything since coming to office. He basically inherited a steadily growing economy and has so far managed not to muck things up economy-wise.

It's funny; when he was campaigning he claimed the jobs numbers were completely wrong and unemployment was much higher than it looked. Now that he's in office, the figures are apparently perfectly a-okay.

First, I'm not quoting Trump; I'm quoting the Bureau of Labor Statistics. I don't know how accurate they are because they usually include even part-time jobs. Second, I'm not particularly giving any credit to anybody except American capitalists who generate jobs.

ETA: However, according to the BLS, the unemployment rate rose from 4.7 in May, 2016 to 4.8 in Jan, 2017, which was when Trump became POTUS. From there until May, 2017, it declined to 4.3, a decrease of .5% during the first four months of Trump's term in office.

THIS story is new? LOL. This story is slanted to only make it LOOK like current events when the information is old and well known. It is not, contrary to what you are trying to claim, "new". Instead, it's a hit piece designed to make Trump look bad as President; conveniently leaving out the fact that he wasn't President at the time. A lie of omission is still a lie. A lie of omission slanted to be new events is a direct lie. If you support the lie, you support the liar.

The healthcare debate is robust and ongoing. If Medicare gets cut, it gets cut. Sometimes government has to make hard choices and sometimes people get sacrificed. I personally believe that Medicare will be cut. Severely cut. Mostly because the program is not financially stable and there is no possible way to make it solvent. Just like Soc Sec cannot be made solvent. Or at least through reasonable methods and taxation. Both programs are doomed and only those who have a ox to gore are in denial about it.

There is no timeline as to when the job numbers for Carrier will begin to expand. Trump has been President for 5 months, and for some unknown and unfathomable reason you expect him to fix all of the ills Obama and Co caused in 8 years. How ridiculous of you. You, the one so vociferous about healthcare, should realize that healing takes much more time than that required for the illness to strike and debilitate. The US will heal but it will take more time than 5 months. But, in your zeal to deny the illness you hand out poison instead of penicillin.

The 600 layoffs were announced officially on Thursday, June 22nd, 2017. How is that not current events?

The information is NOT old and well-known. An official announcement is an official announcement. Anything up to this point has been dismissed as liberal blather. Now it is proven that Trump was full of shit--as usual.

The Medicaid point is not about filthy Republicans, who we always knew were going to go after it. The point is that Trump got quite a few votes, especially Seniors, by promising over and over, not once, not twice, but many many times, that he would not touch Medicaid. Also said "everyone would be covered."

Like I said, the Fake News Media has gotten in the habit of tracking down and following up and pressing Trump on his boasts, promises, and lies--especially since he likes to brag about how he keeps his promises.

That means you're saying Trump was full of bullshit, hooray.

This is about calling Trump out on his lies. IT's not about expecting him to fix everything. However, he stood up there and made some very specific lies to the people who worked at the Carrier plant. He held a rally, patted himself on the back. It's not a generalized argument about "the economy."

We should also note: he bullied a Union leader who called him out on his Carrier false promises and lies. That's why things like this are worth noting, because he made a big point of it.

Trump supposedly saved 1,000 jobs from being sent to Mexico, and we were supposed to ignore the fact that many of the jobs being “saved” were never planned to be cut, and the*giant tax subsidies he doled out to make that happen, and all the jobs that were still going to Mexico, and the fact that the deal was going to*help the company eliminate jobs through automation.

Well, Carrier isn’t in the headlines so much these days, which makes it about time for the asterisks on Trump’s big deal to kick in with a vengeance. Layoffs are officially coming for more than 600 workers at the plant

Also: Medicaid is just fine.

The only people who are saying it's such a bad, bad thing are the top 1% and Republicans who are going to raid the public coffers to get tax cuts, and you actually believe this bullshit.

It's called a transfer of wealth.

This is about calling Trump out on his lies.

Once AGAIN, conveniently not mentioning "You can keep your doctor..."

Honestly CF, people lie. Politicians lie all the time - it's what they do for a living. However, on THIS particular point, the loss of the 600 jobs was known last summer. We KNEW it was going to happen because it was reported at the time. WE. KNEW. IT.

It's now being hyped up as "new" in an effort to once again show Trump in a bad light. This is not news, it's propaganda. And you swallowed it. Again. And, because of the vile disgusting stuff it is, you had no choice but to vomit it back up and spew it all over the place. But rather than apologize for that, you try to shame others who don't like being covered in puke.

I don't care that you don't like Trump. I actually appreciate the fact that your views oppose mine. But, you are being USED. I wish you could see that.

Incidentally, I LIKE "transfer of wealth". I like it when people buy my goods/service because that means I can pay my bills. If I have fewer bills than income that means I can save for retirement. It means I can send my kids (IF I had any) to college without student aid. It means I can help others not so fortunate without hurting my own financial standing. It means I pay more money in taxes so the Government can help those I can't, finance public services like Fire and Police and our military, fund civic projects like infrastructure improvements, and even have some left over for endowments and research. What's not to like about that?

Unless you aren't one of those to whom the wealth is being transferred. Well, some free advice: If you aren't getting the wealth transfer, then maybe you should become one of those who does.

Why would senior citizens particularly care about Medicaid which is, essentially, a form of welfare. People on the Dole or low income people have their medical bills paid by the federal gov., although individual states administer the program. I used to work for MediCAL, which is the name of Medicaid in this state. I am on Medicare now, for which I pay and have paid throughout most of my working life. I believe I have a reasonably good deal, because I have lived long enough to get back what I paid in earlier.
