Ford Cuts Michigan Workforce for Electric Truck That Joe Biden Touted

Ford Motor Company is following through on plans to scale back production of its all-electric F-150 Lightning pickup that President Joe Biden once touted.

On Friday, Ford executives announced that about 1,400 auto workers at the Rouge Electric Vehicle Center in Dearborn, Michigan, would be moved to other manufacturing jobs at the company or offered retirement packages.

The workforce cuts come as Ford scales back production of its all-electric F-150 Lightning due to a lack of demand among American consumers.

In December, Ford executives told suppliers that they planned to only produce about 1,600 F-150 Lightnings a week at the Rouge facility — indicating a 50 percent reduction from its promised goal of producing 3,200 a week.

In May 2021, Biden met with Ford executives to promote the F-150 Lightning as part of his administration’s green energy agenda for the United States economy.

“This sucker’s quick,” Biden said while driving the pickup truck. When asked if he would buy the truck, Biden said, “I would” before touting the truck’s speed ability.

But the overall picture isn’t as bleak as it seems. prior to Ford retooling for EVs that plant was closed aka 0 jobs.. After building up production there are presently there are still 4200 hourly workers at the Dearborn facility.. That is 4200 more jobs than before the push to manufacture EVs in America, 4200 jobs which republican policies would have never created.. Good paying jobs the very thing republican try to kill ever chance they get..

Every day you hear of another American business MAGA calls for its members to boycott.. Every American business from Sanderson Farms, to Smithfield Foods to Levi Jeans has been boycotted by MAGA.. Trump’s failed policies have caused iconic American manufactures like Harley Davidson and Trane AC to move operations overseas.. Even MAGA hats are manufactures overseas.

Adequately paid, safe enough, and generally not abused is increasingly in self-employment, the practical trades that everyone needs eventually: electrician, plumber, etc. That requires people smart enough to seek training and avoid the debt hell of universities and student loans.

Yes its not ready for prime time but why wait till the last minute? It took 30-40 years or so to get the ICE into prime time.. Cars had been around since 1886 but didn't start to overtake the horse and buggy till the 30's. It take 40 years to perfect the engines and build the understructure to support the automobile..

While I agree corporate jobs that offer a decent wage and benefits are far and few between and a pension or retirement benefits have gone the way of the Dodo.. Self employment is not for everyone in fact its for very few.. Any the trades that were once the reliable ways to make a living via the self employment route are being gobbled up by corporate entities. That why mom and pop bakeries, butcher shops, appliance repair shops independent car repair shops even family owned funeral parlors are disappearing.. Even plumping is being eaten up by corporate giants..

Electricians, maybe safe a while longer but maybe not.. While someone that is good at plumping can make a living at it but its not easy.. The easy jobs have been taken over by RotoRouter leaving the independent plumper with the shit jobs pun intended.. And because he can’t afford TV advertising instead of getting 40 jobs a week like the old days he may only get four.. The days of going and unplugging a toilet for $50 for ten minutes work are gone..

As far as trade jobs I have done would auto-mechanic and butcher neither pay as well as you think they might.. The open up a butcher shop will cost you 50K, and $1500 a month rent for your building.. To open a car repair shop you are talking $100K-$150K, its probably cheaper to get a law degree.. Even to work for someone you will invest $20K in tools.. While I agree working for yourself is great if you can but many can’t..
