Apart from that one oblique reference, there is no mention of the Jews, nor Communists, nor any enemies of the Reich real or imagined. And, despite all the marching formations of uniformed men, despite all the displays of cavalry and military hardware, there is no mention whatsoever of the possibility of a coming war. This was the face the Nazis wanted to present to the world, at least at that time.

There is a scene where Hitler addresses a stadium full of Hitler Youth, all those clean-cut Aryan boys looking so cute in their Brownshirt Boy Scout uniforms, and I find myself thinking: This is 1934. War breaks out in 1939 and continues until 1945. Practically all of these boys will be going into the armed forces (some as draftees, some as enthusiastic volunteers). How many of them, I wonder, will still be alive in 1946?
