Man people like to bounce back and forth in history as if it really matters. What matters now is that after 60 years of hard fought statehood, the UK seems to be moving in the direction of appeasing the Hamas terrorists. We have every right to do everything in our power to stop the missiles and right now things are quiet. We've also set them behind in their efforts to reload. Living in the Negev now as I do I appreciate the quiet.
Here's some relevent points - Hamas doesn't want a state of their own. They are only bent on attacking us. The UK giving them legitamacy underminds the moderates such as Fatah (which are no angels) thus resulting in more attacks. Members of Fatah being tortured now by Hamas doesn't even make the news. How would you feel if you knew hundreds of Fatah Palestinians have been killed and tortured by Hamas?
I propose for the US to guard the border with Egypt and patrol the oceans for a period of many years monitoring all imports. It wouldn't take too many resources and soldiers could be kept out of harms way living in that narrow strip.
Why don't people suggest constructive things like that instead of waiting for the next volley of missiles and our retaliation?
I feel embarrassed for you Brits and French that don't see your societies being taken over by islamic extremists. The Netherlands may fight back. Will you?
