McConnell invokes Rule 19; Republic suffers another cut

Warren was reading from something already accepted into the record of Congress about a man who wasn't a senator at the time. And after she, a woman, was rebuked by a southern man, other (male) senators read the exact same letter on the floor of Congress, putting it into the record once again, and were neither stopped nor rebuked.

Can you say that Warren and other senators showed McConnell up to be an autocratic, neo-Nazi, mysogynist? I can. And now so many others can as well who, thanks to McConnell's immature tantrum, who have had the incident highlighted for them across social media and would not otherwise have even noticed that Warren read the letter on the floor of the Congress. Brilliant tactic by Warren, Sanders, et al. And she has you whining and scared as an added benefit. :D

So what if it was read into the record. It does not make it slander. And there you go...

Keep that shit up. Gawd, I am loving this. I don't fear you!

I welcome your free speech.

It's backfiring.

Evidence? She certainly has your goat, doesn't she? :D

I'm glad you asked.

Let's see, there's her false claim she's Indian. Oops, native American; sorrynotsorry.

Then let she referenced the letter Mrs King, Warren never mentioned that the particular case was a voter intimidation case brought from black voters against other black voters. Check it out, don't take my word for it; it's a 1986 case brought from Perry County, Alabama black voters against other Perry County, Alabama black voters. Sessions, as the U.S. attorney, prosecuted that case. So either he's so racist that he seeks to prosecute poor, black voters OR he followed his oath to uphold the law to the letter. According to that dingbat Warren it's the former.

Her support of "women"s rights.". If she is so concerned about that why support a former Secretary of State that paid her female emplyees @ 73-77% less than what their male counterparts were being paid? Yeah, I won't hold my breath waiting for ya to answer.

There, just three examples of her lack of integrity.

Circumstances?

Well, if he did and he wasn't, then he should have been. We'd have to revisit that instance to properly dissect it.

Paragraph 2 of Senate rule 19 says: "No Senator in debate shall, directly or indirectly, by any form of words impute to another Senator or to other Senators any conduct or motive unworthy or unbecoming a Senator."

The whole purpose of quoting Coretta Scott King was to impugn the character of Sessions.

But, yeah, the whole purpose of calling McConnell a liar would be to impugn his character as well, so there is that.

As for why Cruz wasn't cited, my guess is that McConnell believed, probably correctly, that he was being baited -- that Cruz was promoting himself as the "real" conservative who wasn't afraid to piss off the GOP powers-that-be (he was running for President by this time), and getting in official trouble would help a lot towards that end.

There are some who will say that official rules of decorum are outdated and all of the "distinguished gentlemen" stuff is disingenuous crapola we'd be better off without, but I see a place for it still, especially with an insult comic in the White House.

But I don't agree with those who are saying that Warren did all this on purpose for self-promotion (I don't think she really needs any) and that she knew she was over the line. Did anyone else know that quoting a past Senate speech about a presidential nominee who only later became a senator himself was out of bounds?

There's also something a little strange about the fact that Sessions's current status as a senator is the only thing that made Warren's remarks worthy of note. Should there really be a separate standard of debate for presidential nominees who are current senators, and those who aren't? Because if you're arguing against a nomination, it's kind of hard to do that without using language that could be construed, if one is willing to stretch things some, as maligning someone's character.

Xcuse me, this is a FACT FREE thread,

please stick to the rules

Whether you call yourselves Republicans, conservatives, alt-rightists, racists, white supremacists, the fact is your all whiners.

Didn’t like the “black” guy, huh? Not too crazy about MLK, or his Missus?

You're so pleased that the GOP is finally growing a set! For eight years, your beloved GOP obstructed a president from doing his job. Now that took balls!
Why are we in the shape we’re in? George W. and then your ersatz president, Mitch, “The Turtle” McConnell, obstructing everything and anything the president wanted to do, including his right, decided by the people and specified in the Constitution, to appoint a Supreme Court justice.

How many of you send or have sent your kids to public school? I’ll guarantee you that not one senator has sent their kids to public school and, in all likelihood, few and far between are the reps that have. Neither have any of the plutocrats in the cabinet. Amway billionaire Betsy DeVos probably never went near a neighborhood that had a public school in it. When was the last time your senator bought a loaf of bread or filled up his car with gas?

When SS is privatized and Medicare and Medicaid disappear, you’ll all be on your own, for your retirement, for your health care. I hope you never need a kidney transplant or heart or back surgery. Those bills go into the six figures.

It’s kind of like winning a vacation. You win something you wanted and then they tell you that you have to pay the taxes on its value.

Good luck with the Donald. You got what you wanted, NOW DEAL WITH IT!!

Oh, does this mean Jeff Sessions can still keep the white sheet with the eyeholes in his closet?

I'm a racist shit stain. And a misogynist moron. And a homeopathic halfwit. I really don't like anyone. I don't like you. You gotta be a white wuss.
