I have a scar on the bridge of my nose from a wipeout back when I was a teenager and one of my skis came up and hit me square in the face breaking my goggles and cutting my shit wide open. Got taken down by the medics which was sorta cool because it was mostly my pride that was hurting but there was a lot of blood so they insisted.

The hills here are so short I use 165 cm skis. There is a hill in Milton we go to that has a long stretch that lets me go too fast for my short skis. Funny to look back up the hill and see the reason for the expression 'yard sale'.

...as I was saying...

People are freaking out. I sat next to a government climate guy today and he told me to clear the gutters and get ready because it's gonna pound us.

Here's the real problem: everyone whines that SoCal needs rain- and we do. Problem is that the ground is so dry and hard that ii just runs off and creates flash floods.

But yeah, I'm looking forward to some decent snow for the first time in a few years.
..
Ventura Blvd. makes a nice river out by Woodland Hills during the crazy rain

Her name is spelled wrong and she didn't invent that, she invented something that uses it.

Correct! Her name is Hedy Lamarr.

But! WomenInventors.com seems to disagree with you on your second point:

Hedy Lamarr

Invention of Spread Spectrum Technology

Although better known for her Silver Screen exploits, Austrian actress Hedy Lamarr (born Hedwig Eva Maria Kiesler) also became a pioneer in the field of wireless communications following her emigration to the United States. The international beauty icon, along with co-inventor George Anthiel, developed a "Secret Communications System" to help combat the Nazis in World War II. By manipulating radio frequencies at irregular intervals between transmission and reception, the invention formed an unbreakable code to prevent classified messages from being intercepted by enemy personnel.

Lamarr and Anthiel received a patent in 1941, but the enormous significance of their invention was not realized until decades later.
It was first implemented on naval ships during the Cuban Missile Crisis and subsequently emerged in numerous military applications. But most importantly, the "spread spectrum" technology that Lamarr helped to invent would galvanize the digital communications boom, forming the technical backbone that makes cellular phones, fax machines and other wireless operations possible.

As is the case with many of the famous women inventors, Lamarr received very little recognition of her innovative talent at the time, but recently she has been showered with praise for her groundbreaking invention. In 1997, she and George Anthiel were honored with the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) Pioneer Award. And later in the same year, Lamarr became the first female recipient of the BULBIE™ Gnass Spirit of Achievement Award, a prestigious lifetime accomplishment prize for inventors that is dubbed "The Oscar™ of Inventing."

Proving she was much more than just another pretty face, Lamarr shattered stereotypes and earned a place among the 20th century's most important women inventors. She truly was a visionary whose technological acumen was far ahead of its time.

I have a pair of 147 cm skate skis. Nice for skating on narrow trails.

Weird Lamarr's later shoplifting attempts. Cry for attention. I guess Winona Ryder's same stunt is not so strange and out of place.

Did not know about her first film and her invention. Cool!

My cross country skis are ultra long classic types. All the trails around here are groomed for classic. Do Nordics have edges? Can you carve a downhill turn?

At Milton I can skate across the top of the hill. Full of school kids until 3pm. From 3-5 you can have the whole place almost to yourselves. Skate the top, swing through the terrain park, cut through some trees and across a run and with a bit of speed make it right back to farthest ski lift. About only way to get in a run around here not measured in seconds.

I have one pair of Karhu's with metal edges and a couple pairs of Bonnas with lignastone edges. You'd have to learn to be a pinner if you wanna do crazy DH stuff on nordic skis.

Not crazy DH. My DH skis are 165s. 147cm Nordics may still work on the bumps we have here. The ski hill in London is referred to as the 'Byron Bump". In 2012 they opened a 220ft hill! Oooh aaah! Highest point in town. Plus has X-country trails. Might be able to have skis which can do both.

Maybe go to longer Nordics?

One can't have too many pairs of skis.

Not unlike fishing rods. 4 fly rods (2 6wt, 1 7wy, 1 10wt), 1 down rigging rod (10'), 2 ultra light spinning rods(5'), 2 medium action(7.5'), 1 heavy action(8'), 1 light action (9'), 2 float rods913'), 2 ice fishing plus two tip ups.

Would relatively long Nordics work on tiny DH slopes? Sounds like it if they have some sort of edging.

Ski inventory:

2 Pair Bonna 2000
2 Pair Bonna Grenadier Race Trainer
1 Pair Karhu Backcountry
2 Pair Trak Full Fish Scale
1 Pair Fischer Rev Skate
1 Pair Fischer SCS Skate
1 Pair Rossi X-IUM Skate
1 Pair Fischer RCR Classic

Unless you are running heavy nordic skis, you will prolly snap a pair on a DH slope unless you know how to tele-turn.

We have some nice downhills on the xc trails around here. The snowplow can be your friend. Otherwise, it can get a bit hairy out there. The tracks are your friend until you're starting to bounce out of them. Then, they aren't.

My Docs look almost new after 20 years. Don't find them very comfortable with my fallen arches and orthopedics. Look fucking cool though, so I periodically wear them. I was surprised to not find them comfortable. I liked parade boots and could wear them forever without blisters. Only one in my squadron at cadet camp to not get blisters.

Took my air cadet parade boots with me to basic. Hid them above the ceiling tiles so I had a set for inspections. Didn't work! Still not shiny enough!

My oxblood Doc boots are about 4-5 years in and still a bit stiff enough to pinch, but they don't hurt as much as they did that first year being brand new. I wanted to cut my feet off one night I was hobbling so bad! :(

I wanna get more boots and maybe another pair of the lo-rise shoes like I had back in my college days. I might be too old for the 20-lace, though. Them shits take a while to get on, but they are boss for those who can rock 'em! :D

When I went to buy my Docs couldn't find 14 holes anywhere in town. Was really looking for combat boots. I refuse to wear surplus boots some grunt wore in.

"The tourism boss of Australia's Northern Territory says a controversial marketing campaign promoted going Down Under in all the wrong ways.

Northern Territory (NT) Tourism has welcomed an advertising standards ruling than an unofficial "CU in the NT" slogan that sparked outrage on social media and generated international coverage is obscene."

It is plain to see why you needed a costco sized garage.

Twenty feet of fresh powder! A dream. Slopes around here never have powder. Bought a helmet after getting too far back over my skis and ringing my bell off the frozen ice and man made shit. A tree would be softer.

Is it an everyday helmet or just for skiing?
