was just watching a film that i missed the beginning of, and it seemed such a sweet old-fashioned and joyous romantic one: an old guy and lady of similar years falling in love over the course of the xmas week, and he plans to ask her to marry him the next day. there's some little thing about medication she needs to fill but can't before the monday and it looks as if she maybe has some illness she's not disclosed

the next day he wakes up and can't find her, tries calling and calling, freaking out - he'd told her his life was so bad before he knew her, he was tired and that's why he'd bought himself the gun wrapped up under the tree, but she'd made him want to live again and never leave him... now he's in despair and thinks she's left him.

turns out he has dementia, the woman is his wife of many many years, the young people are his son and daughter - they live just across the street where he moved into the other house because of his illness and not remembering people. he runs into the house and sees all the pictures, has a moment of clarity and collapses. he doesn't die, but she's lost him again, this time for good, to the disease. omg, so sad.

Probably could be shimmed to get the ring gear to engage properly. Should not be that expensive.

In the alternative an entire rear axle is not usually that expensive and relatively easy to change out with basic hand tools.
