Why do people make a big deal about when "famous" people die? I honestly don't get it. No one writes about the millions of other folks that do it every day. Single mothers, kids, doctor, lawyers, your fifth grade teacher who had lived to school 4 generations... Can you please explain why some folks lives garner more attention when they end than others?

Because famous people are famous for a reason. Not always a good reason, but some reason.
In the case of Palmer he was one of the greatest professional golfers ever to play the game. He had 62 wins on the PGA Tour including seven major tournament wins, four of which were victories in the Masters tournament. Perhaps just as significantly he was dominating the sport of professional golf at a time when live televised sports coverage was in its infancy. Arnold Palmer was NOT the Tiger Woods of the 1950s and 60s. Tiger Woods WAS the Arnold Palmer of the 1990s and 2000s.
If you don't give a crap about sports in general or golf in particular, that won't mean a thing to you. As it doesn't mean a thing to me when some rap artist dies whose name is an apparent random arrangement of consonants but who somehow sold three million cds.
But the rest of us were fans and admirers of the King of golf.

Sounds like projection to me. I have never felt I had an issue "fitting in." Call it self-delusion if you like, but I have always gotten on fine with those I have any interest in. As the only person who has openly acknowledged the use of alts along with a detailed explaination, followed up with the practical demonstration of Conager what it is that I do, and do not do with alts, I owe you no further explaination to quell any concerns you may have based on your either willful ignorance of that history, or your naive trust in those that choose to slander me by claiming alts that are objectionable are me.

Anyway, my reason for asking is that it has occurred to me that we as a humans tend to forget that we are all inter connected. EVERY life matters. Not just famous ones. From the child dying of the flu in some third world country to the house wife in some backwoods county town and even the millionaire who no one will miss because he was a money grubbing bastard. I find it sad that we as a race have become so disconnected that only if you have won an award is your life looked on and given praise by the masses. The single mom who raised three kids on a shoe string budget in not touted as hero. Thou I dare say she very much is. The man who dies from cancer after working as as a fireman in 9/11 gets no recognition. It just bothers me that so many who have actually done great thing in this world go unsung because they didn't have a shinny trophy to commemorate their achievements. No offense to Mr. Palmer but he was a golf player. In the big picture that has zero value or impact on the further improvement of mankind. It's like Brad and Angelina getting a divorce. Why are people so concerned with trivial shit when there is famine, murder, sex slaves and other atrocities being perpetrated in the world. Have we a species become that petty that the biggest headlines in our lives are the misery and end of others. Has it overshadowed the drive to improve who we are and become better. The wallowing in the mud rather bothers me.
Now I am not saying I am perfect. The seven deadly sins have all lived in my world at one time or another. I am working on me always. I am just asking a genuine question. Not joking and not being snippy. It's not about my ego. Actually, it is my lack of ego that prompted the question.
