True, that happens to us all. People are in ourselves due to proximity and familial relationships, but also, what do we hide from each other for fear the other won't "get it?"

I suppose there's something to that. There are certainly things I don't mention, or mention much, because I don't think someone will get it. It's not usually a fear of being looked at funny, although that may play in I guess.

For example, I'm taking my son to a hard rock festival in a couple of weeks. I've been listening to some of the bands -- Avenged Sevenfold, Volbeat, Sevendust, Hellyeah and others -- and have come to genuinely like some of the music. I can't imagine the other moms liking any of it. Don't mean to sell them short, but having heard some of their musical tastes, I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be in their wheelhouse.

I have cousins in England who post on FB about movie stars they like as if they were teenagers. I didn't do the equivalent even when I was a teenager.

Probably the biggest thing is with the kids. So many posts and IRL remarks about oh my gosh, I wish they were still little kids, I cried when they went to middle/high school, or even just the fact that their going back to school, etc. And I'm thinking, are they gone yet, because I want to watch Penny Dreadful?

:p Ah well. Viva la difference. :)

LOL I'm one of those that can find something in every musical genre to appreciate but I mostly listen to Adult Contemporary, Jazz, Big Band, and occasionally Country. And I vascillate wildly on wanting the munchkin to grow up and missing her toddler years. Yes, there are people in my family who I love but would not be friends with. And people I am friendly with at work only out of proximity. We find our tribe and enjoy it. For me, that's mainly my writer's group and people from Lit. :rose:

Every now & again, our TV adverts are somehow - better - for having some education or music or even 'class'. Virgin Atlantic, BA, and now the latest Guinness advert is just such a one, IMO.
TRY THIS FOR SIZE.
It's better if you like big band (jazz) music, you understand.

I believe it was written by louis Prima, made famous be Benny Goodman, but you have to listen to Gene Krupa's drumming . . . .
It brings a tear to my eye.

Woo! My complaint us, it's too short! :D But I know where to find the long version.

Blurt: I'm being good, I'm being good, I'm being good . . . and NOT sending him those memes.

I dislike the media.

They do nothing. They make noise.

At bottom, they are nothing more than professional gossips and busybodies.

Believe nothing of what they say. I've seen it too many times. What they emit has no resemblance to the facts. Far too many times, they have absolutely no idea what the hell they're talking about.

Television and radio reporters are blowhards and windbags. The print journalists are slightly better (but that's not saying much). The New York Times, WaPo, PBS and NPR are colossally bent. They self-select and are utterly clueless. The self-proclaimed tolerant are, in fact, highly intolerant.

I hate dealing with cell phones. Never goes like I want/plan/hope and takes too long. pah.

I keep my cell phone turned off and in it's original box. Only charge it up to take on long trips (in the trunk of the car). Have never received a call on it. Am as happy as a clam about that. Of course it isn't a smart phone either.

Well, that's good for you. We all work differently.

It's too hot in my part of the UK today, as it was yesterday, the hottest September day since 1911.

At 10 am this morning it was 30 C and it is getting hotter. I'm one of the people classed by doctors at high risk in hot weather so I'm staying indoors.

But my desktop overheated half an hour ago. I had to open it up and clean out two months' accumulation of fluff. Our cleaner has been too diligent, stirring up dust from the darkest recesses of my study.

The desktop is working again now, but I'm still too hot. The computer's fan is apparently quieter. I didn't know it was noisy because I can't hear it, quiet or noisy.

Perhaps I should take my headphones off?

I was in our local supermarket this afternoon; a youngish bloke had his 'phone in the crook of his neck and carried on his conversation even when paying at the till !
What does he think the place is, a bloody 'phone booth ?

My problem was I was attempting to change plans and put a third line on the plan for PennBoy. It was all going well and then it wasn't but eventually it worked out. Just took a while, which is frustrating

The "season of mists and mellow fruitfulness" has truly arrived.
We got the mist all right!

In about 90 minutes, I'm taking PennBoy to Rock Allegiance. I think we're both a tad nervous*, but also looking forward to it.

And naturally this morning I woke up around 5am, with the beginnings of a headache, so got up and took medicine and... never went back to sleep. *eyeroll* Debating a short lie down ... Couldn't hurt, might help.

---
*Nervous because: I've never done a festival like this; I get nervous driving to places I haven't been for the first time (but we have driven close to the stadium, so it's not totally unfamiliar); there is rain in the forecast (but I have ponchos); headache still hasn't gone away but I have time to take more meds; and... well, general apprehension I guess. I expect everything will be fine but, well, can't help a little nerves.
