I'm a trout guy.

Browns, brookies, no greys yet.

Greys are elusive and wily, at least to my piscatorial prowess.

I had to look up what the blazes a "pan fish" is... So, it's just any fish you can stick in a pan?

Well then, it would depend on the fish then, wouldn't it? And the pan.

I tend to stick to lures.

Fry that bad boy!
I only take home fish that come out of water which I know is safe. That fish alone, not worth the trouble.

When I was 10 years old I caught a two pound bluegill using a piece of ham for bait. It's a good thing I was fishing with my trusty Zebco Zeebee that day. :D

I still have my first fishing reel which is a Zebco 202, which still works.

My best days were ice fishing in Mn.
You had to go North or West to get the pound sunnies. I knew of a lot of hidden unknown lakes.
Nothing like the sound of a Jiffy digging in.
Sittin on a 5 gal bucket, one eye on my tip up, a beer in the snow.
Out there, the only decision I had to make was whether to go with the green teardrop #6, or the black ant #8.
I really need to move back there.
But damn, I can't ignore the cold the way I used to.

I was watching this video the other day.

Oh well. If we can have 2 Prince threads and numerous parody's, 2 fishing threads wont doom the GB .

Why arent hot dogs a choice? I've caught many a sunfish on hot dogs and cheese. I almost always use live bait but I can't beat bass stoppers for bass fishing. The purple ones seem to work best.

Salmon eggs, popcorn shrimp, worms.

Nice to see you post in this thread ! When I was a wee lad & living up north I used Salmon eggs for trout. I didn't catch anything, anything.

I always like live bait. I'm no good with artificial bait.

Artificals require a lil effort to fish them properly.

I have never heard of this ^^. Share your wisdom. I've only used hotdogs a few times when fishing for cats.

Might not work everywhere. I used hot dogs and cheese in the streams of central Gerogia and it worked great. Im in Michigan now and never tried it here.

I remember catching rock bass as a kid, it was fun. That's a big ass sinker btw.
I was in Walmart today and saw they had Martin Fly rod kits for panfish marked down half price so I bought one. I'll post a pic later.

I always wanted to play the guitar and fly fish.
I never had the patience to learn either.

Fly fishing is fun once you learn it and allow yourself to relax and get into the zen of it. It's fairly easy to learn, too. I thought it would be difficult but it's not at all.
Now learning to be good at it, that's hard.
Still, there's a sense of satisfaction when you haul in a nice trout using a fly you tied yourself.

I've never caught a damn thing with salmon eggs either.
I finally stopped trying.

I've caught a lot of salmon with their eggs but really that's about it. I've tried them with other fish but I guess the others don't like caviar.

Holy shit that looks like a 2lb sinker. What the hell were you trying to keep down, Jimmy Hoffa?

Escape from the normal drudgery of everyday life. Go to a lake, early enough to see the sun rise. Get in a boat, and let the tranquil water lull you into a relaxed state. Take in the beautiful scenery at your own pace. Eat a delicious snack. Drink alcoholic beverages. Have friends join you and enjoy the ideal environment together...

...but don't forget to throw in the tedium of hooks, poles, line, lures, bait, having to sit and wait for the right type of fish to bite, reel it in, work the hook out, release and repeat or gut the fish, keep moving the boat to find a "better spot", go home smelling like ass, scale your catch, prepare it, cook it, pick out the bones while you eat...

It's all very Puritan: take an otherwise perfect activity, and ruin it with labor. Props to people who love it, but I'll never get it.

The salmon eggs are those neon pink things that come in the jar for catching trout. Then there are those salmon eggs that are still in their sac that is used for trolling for king salmon, entirely different fishing.

Men pile up pounds while fishing or watching sports on tv with a beer in hand,
while their SO's do the laundry, clean the house and then go to the gym.

Waching black and white reruns?

Peoples don't understand back trolling for kings.

I liked this. Reminded me of, "Golf is a good walk spoiled."

Puritanical tie-in was brilliant.

A good day fishing doesn't always come with a good day of catching.

. . . especially if you are a pitcher.

#emptycreel

Hey, I enjoy a full day of catch and release with grayling or rainbows. But, some days, it's nice to just sit in the sun with a beer and drag a an unbaited mooching rig through the water. Someone else runs the boat, fetches beer and sandwiches. It's fucking like heaven.
