It seems like the public stereotypes physically attractive women as less serious or less competent. This seems to be especially true in relation to politicians.
Ugly women tend to do better at the ballot box and less subject to accusations of stupidy or incompetence even in the face of obvious evidence to the contrary. This pattern holds from local councils up to the highest levels.
The reverse is not true, handsome men tend to do better when seeking elected office. Of course there are exceptions, but the general rule is true.
