Objectively speaking, there is no real historical Jesus. There are only tales in the so-called gospels, which, btw, are not written by Matthew, Mark, Luke, or John--all are by unknown writers, and basically, conflict with each other.

The way I feel about religion is this.

If you need the threat of some magical all knowing being throwing you into eternal torment and damnation to make you be a decent, good, and kind person. Then you aren't really a decent, good, or kind person.

Decent, good, and kind people don't need incentives or threats to be themselves. Being decent, good, and kind is a reward in and of itself. Incentives and threats are used to try to make someone do something out of character.

I have to shake my head every time a Conservative here in the U.S. makes a fuss about Muslims supposedly trying to force Sharia Law but seem to have absolutely no problem with Christians attempting to push Biblical law onto everyone in the very same way.
