.....have been burnt across my tiny little part of Oz in the past week.
Today, we have about 50,000 people flooded out.

The amount of rain that has fallen in the past 36 hours is equal to a full spring and summer combined.

Tell me again about global warming?!

My back is sore from all the glowball warming I have shoveled off walkways and driveways.

I find it amusing how people think that global warming means there will be no rain or snow.
It leads to more crazy weather.
Rainforests are hot as fuck and it rains all the time there.
More heat does not mean no rain, it means more. Heat makes more water evaporate which means there is more to come down.

God hates OZ.

That explains how turning productive farmland California back to its natural, arid state of no cooling vegitation has resulted in record rainfall.

The only fires that you hear about in my state are the ones near roads or heavily populated areas. Over 5M acres (about 2M hectares) burned last year. 98.9% were caused by lightening strikes. It was the 2nd largest fire year on record. Stats in pdf

If anyone would know lightning stats, that would be Thor.

What do the Buccaneers have to do with anything?

Who?

I was talking hockey.

There's no reason on Earth to follow any other professional sport other than XC Skiing where I cheer either for the Americans or the Canadians.

Where on earth did you pull those numbers from?

HOT WET RICE! Why are you wasting time with these silly questions?

Gather your kids, husband, and the family drop-bear, pile onto a life raft, and shove off into the sea, keeping that inhospitable island to your backs.

Godspeed!

I know you lot rarely hear news from my little island, but the fires have been so bad that mainland Victorians have been choked by our smoke haze.
It's been bad enough that the authorities were warning to keep young kids, elderly and anyone with a respiratory illness inside with windows shut for almost a week.
Firefighters have heen flown in to Tassie from mainland Oz and as far away as New Zealand to try and get containment lines done!
Now these storms have come, but only really on the east coast of Tas, so the rains haven't been where the fires are.
The stats are correct - I will hunt down a few pics and put them up.

We were hardly choked out. There was a faint smell of smoke in the air for a few hours one afternoon.

There is really no need to exaggerate the facts with melodrama - it's all quite bad enough as it is for those affected.

Actually, ABC reported that over 1000 calls were made to emergency services in Victoria over 2 days, reporting possible fires due to the smoke.
No melodrama. Fact.

Here's a Melbournite mentioning the smoke....

You must hate that I can link to everything I've said!

Oh dear WQ, hate is such a strong word... most melodramatic but to be expected, right? Your "facts" and their presentation are just as loose as your grasp on reality.

You didn't read any of the linked stuff, did you?!
