I'm learning a whole lot from you, xian. The tyre trick - a must do.

You can split kindling that way with a light ax, too. You don't need to use a heavy maul. It's also a fantastic workout.
I posted this yesterday in the Men In Kilts thread, but I'm not sure how many people venture over there. Kilts, bagpipes, and Balmorals are manly, right?

Also in the woods behind my home is a small creek that floods occasionally. this day I was using a mattock to free debris that was accumulating against the bridge which is normally above the water.

Anymore men with guns? Hunters? Military?
Caribou? Very nice. I bet that tasted amazing.
Awww, the Bambi pics always make me sad.
But I guess this is men doing men things thread....not men doing what I want thread![]()
He was calm and relaxed when he was harvested unlike a lot of meat we eat from grocery stores, healthier meat as well.
I eat mostly fish - we all know they have no brains![]()
I get it. I actually don't like killing. It makes sad. But i do feel good about the end result. The way i look at it is that this animal had a great life and then one bad moment. Compare that to a chicken in a factory farm, a steer on a containment lot, or a hog in a gestation crate, and the animals i put in my freezer look pretty good. I eat meat and I'm not in denial that something had to die -- animal, bird, fish -- so that i have food. I'm not being preachy or knocking anyone who wants that separation. It's just what I'm about.
I tried to find a recent shot or two of me with clothes on doing normal stuff and sadly fell short of the mark. I'll have to take a couple. Until then here's a shot someone took a couple of years ago on a business trip.

Around the 1850's timeframe, a smidgen of gold was found in the creek near my house. Now I'm not one to let legends die, I pan for gold whenever I have idle time. No color yet, but I do find tale-tale signs of it, black sand and quartz. I shall endeavor to persevere.

I was asked if I'd contribute a shot, so here is one from a backpacking trip, 10 days in the Wallowa Mountains.
Older pic, but it's me and Porkchop.
