Annoying things, part 24347

As an action, you can use "taxi" as nuance. Technically, it's a car service, not a taxi.

What does it do differently than a taxi? I order it, it shows up, it takes me where I want to go, I pay.

So, an unmarked taxi?

By the way, most tend to look more like this.

You know... like.. normal?

Whch is fine, I'd rather ride with that.

So, for this modern age terminology's sake, when you Uber, you don't taxi, you Uber. If you don't want to be looked at with crazy eyes at the party, you're gonna want to make sure you get up to speed with the lingo.
Sounds like a party I'd end up want to punch people at.

By the way, I never taxi. One takes a taxi. It's not a verb.

Look, I know what Uber is. I use the service, it's pretty good. It is however exatcly the same service as a call pool for freelance taxi drivers. It just don't want to call itself that because it wants to appear cool. Mission accomplished, I guess.

ps, a Mac is a PC.

Maybe people you hang out with would think that but most people I know barely know what uber is and it's a good bet none of them have ever used it and I would hope they wouldn't think less of a person for using terminology they don't use themselves.
You call a car to pick you up they'd say you called a taxi. Mostly because you did.
Uber might be really big in large cities but it's practically non-existant in a lot of places or is so unreliable as to be essentially worthless.

Where do you live? Not being nosy, just want to get a better frame of reference. Uber's program works best in big cities and metro areas with high commuter traffic. It's not a flawless company but it does work well and it wouldn't be booming right now if it didn't.

I haven't yet used Uber myself, but it is what it is and it filled in a niche that regular taxis and other car services didn't. Same with other subsequent app-accessible specialized car services like Lyft.

Hey, I "get it." Don't get me wrong. But when you call a taxi, you call a taxi. And a taxi is what you get. When you Uber, you Uber. That's it. And all Uber is, is a car (and helicopter) service made for smartphone accessibility. Even car services that existed waaaaaay before Uber changed the game never called themselves taxis.
The taxi company in my area that had an Uber like service option (order and pay by app, get set price, track arrival by said app, even leave feedback by app) four years ago called themselves taxis.

The tracking was janky as all hell and the app had the user friendliness of a Gordian knot, but they had the right idea at least.

If that's all the requirements necessary, then I'm gonna start calling them rickshaws. :D

That's good on paper for English class, but conversational social nuance deads that. You can use taxi as a verb in the same way you can use Uber as a noun and verb.

ps, a Mac is a PC.

Don't say that to the PC people, or they'll have an aneurysm! :D

Doesn't bother me. In about five years no one will think anything of it.

I'm a little bit more conservative then it comes to the brandification of language. Google gets away with it because they're the most ubiquous thing imaginable. Everybody Googles, nobody says they Bing, even when they do.

Is Bing still a thing? When it first came out I was all on it, but now...nada. I don't see it being hyped anywhere anymore. It's kinda like the Zune of search engines.

Sadly, bing is still a thing.
Every time I update my pc, bing resets as my default search engine.
I fucking hate bing. Useless pos.

James

We don't taxi or uber... James just brings the car around. And when James the chauffeur left and we employed a chauffeuse, we stuck with the name James... makes life so much simpler.:)

First time I saw that I thought it was Uber being cheeky with advertising placement. Then I learned that's what Uber cars need to look like in Germany due to regulations of the taxi industry.

... Bcuz they're taxis. :D

But that can't be right because we've already been told they aren't taxis and people will think you're crazy if you don't say you ubered.

Taxiways are made to be taxied upon...but not by taxis.
