In a Wednesday radio interview with bile-fueled hatebot Dana Loesch, Cruz whined that it’s high time for Obama to meet him for a one-on-one debate about the merits of the deal — because of course presidents have debates with freshman senators all the time — and “if he can’t be pulled off the golf course then he can send as a proxy Secretary Kerry.” Edgy! How did he forget to throw in a teleprompter joke while he was at it?

See, the biggest problem with the “Obama-Clinton-Kerry” foreign policy (yes, Cruz thinks he’s running against all three of them) is that Obama simply refuses to debate Ted Cruz, because he is a big old chicken and won’t talk about the “substance” of the Iran deal instead of the “smoke and mirrors that is endangering the national security of our country with this catastrophic deal.” Needless to say, Cruz didn’t specify what substantial issues he objects to in the deal, except that it is very, very bad, and also is bad for our allies, who are Israel. (He didn’t mention our other allies, Britain, France, Germany, and the EU as a group, who also signed on to the deal, because they aren’t Israel — don’t you know anything about geopolitics?)

As Thursday’s Fox News Republican debate approaches, once-heralded GOP candidates are becoming increasingly anxious to raise their poll numbers and try to make it into the top 10 candidates who will be allowed to debate on the main stage.

Huffington Post reported on a campaign video by Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) that seems to have been conceived by way of a right-wing Mad Lib.

“There are few things I enjoy more than on weekends cooking breakfast with the family. Of course in Texas, we cook bacon a little differently than most folks,” Cruz said in the video.

He then wrapped the barrel of an assault rifle in raw bacon, coated it in foil, then fired at targets on a shooting range.

“Mmmmm,” Cruz said. “Machine-gun bacon.”

So he shoots up $50 worth of ammo to cook one slice?

Isn't he supposed to be big on fiscal responsibility? Spending at least $15 (assuming 2 boxes of the cheapest .223 you can find) to cook 50 cents worth of bacon doesn't seem fiscally responsible to me. Though i doubt he used the cheapest since it's made in Russia.

The people of Texas owe America an apology. They elected Ted Cruz to the United States Senate, and now the country is forced to endure his presence throughout the interminable election season. Cruz has worked diligently (and successfully) to become the least liked human being in Congress. Judging by last night, he’s hated most by his Republican colleagues, who, once again, blocked his inane efforts to shut down the government unless it defunded Planned Parenthood.

Both Republicans and Democrats passed a temporary spending measure that will keep the government afloat (a move supported by a majority of Americans) through mid-December. After the bill was passed by a vote of 77-19, Cruz theatrically sought a roll-call vote but he was promptly denied by his fellow Republicans, many of whom shouted “No!” at the Senator’s request.

Nihilism is the belief that all values are baseless and that nothing can be known or communicated. It is often associated with extreme pessimism and a radical skepticism that condemns existence. A true nihilist would believe in nothing, have no loyalties, and no purpose other than, perhaps, an impulse to destroy.

In a bizarre attempt to earn their six-figure paychecks for a change, a sufficient number of congressional Republicans agreed with Democrats that Sen. Ted Cruz sure is a moron, and also, it would be a good idea to keep the lights on in America, at least for another few months:

With only hours to spare on the last day of the fiscal year, Congress approved a temporary spending measure to avert a shutdown and keep the federal government operating through Dec. 11. […]

The temporary spending measure will keep the government operating at roughly last year’s levels — a rate of about $1.017 trillion a year, with some notable changes for emergency situations such as $700 million to fight wildfires in the West.

As per usual when Congress bothers to do a quarter-assed job at anything at all, the members will now go home to enjoy a week-long vacay for Columbus Day, which lasts a whole week if you are a member of Congress, how nice for them. Then they’ll return to DC, tanned, ready and rested, so they can get back to the important work of getting nothing done at all, before they have to gear up to drive us to the edge once more in December.

(His effort fell well short of Donald Trump’s epic assholish promise to repatriate Syrians who have already been resettled in the USA, or Mike Huckabee’s suspicion that they just want cable TV.) Apparently, Ted Cruz has forgotten that his dry-drunk daddy fled an oppressive regime and found freedom in the United States, where any boy can grow up to be president, even if he’s a Canadian Anchor Baby.

Still, you have to admire the courage of a Bible-believing guy who likes to talk about how his dad forged a new life in a new country, and then tells people trying to escape a war to go fuck themselves, because we’re afraid of them, and they’re the wrong kind of refugee. We guess he was quoting from the Bible verse where Jesus says, “When I was a stranger you slammed the door in my face.” Also, Cruz seems to be missing an important talking point: All our guns are supposed to keep us safe, aren’t they?

(Well actually, The New York Times — a publication guilty in the eyes of the right of both a liberal perspective and solid, in-depth, factual reporting — does. According to a recent investigation, almost half the money financing the 2016 presidential race has come from 158 families, 138 of whom have donated exclusively to Republican candidates.)


As of today, the all-time leading fundraiser at cruzcrowd.com is a man from Texas who has raised $2,825. The second top patriot has rustled up $500, and the remaining eight have raised between $250 and $360 each. And not a one of these patriots is a DC power broker.

Nope, the real would-be kingmakers in Cruz’s camp come largely from Texas: $15 million from The Wilks family, which has profited wildly from the fracking boom; $11.3 million from New York (!) hedge fund manager Robert Mercer and his daughter; and $10 million from Texas-born private equity investor Toby Neugebauer.

Now that’s what a Cruz revolution looks like: crowd-funded on the outside, big money fueled on the inside.

Ted Cruz has quietly amassed a campaign war chest that's second to none.

Three separate Cruz superPACS with tens of millions more waiting in reserve to attack when the time comes, and it's not just Texas billionaires like technology mogul Darwin Deason, although he has them, too. Cruz takes in millions from a grass roots network of Tea Party and other insurgent Republicans in small amounts. Not unlike another freshman Senator who ran and won on a wave of Internet-driven contributions.

Ted Cruz Versus Journalism

Conservatives say too many liberals seem to work for news outlets. Whether or not this is true, does it matter? Shouldn’t journalistic standards be the main defense against bias?

Ted Cruz doesn’t think so. He recently suggested that only reporters who have voted in Republican primaries should be eligible to moderate Republican primary debates. Even Kelly (now apparently the darling of liberal websites The Huffington Post and Salon) scoffed at Cruz’s suggestion, asking the firebrand senator whether he would participate in a debate moderated by Tim Russert, who was both a widely respected journalist and a Tip O’Neill campaign aide.

Cruz’s idea would perhaps help the Republican Party avoid some scrutiny, but it’s not how the news has traditionally worked. In the U.S., the media are supposed to hold people in power accountable, not become their cheerleaders. Accountability, however, isn’t Cruz’s goal. Whether or not the media indeed are biased against the right, the GOP has effectively used journalists as a popular scapegoat to score points with voters. Attacks on CNBC moderators during last month’s debate drew consistent and hearty applause.
