Gay and gender ambiguity was cool for a while in the 70s, but then it became uncool in the 80s.
I predict there will be a pendulum swing back toward Straight Pride among youth in a generation or two (or maybe three). There are pendulum swings, and I honestly can't believe 2.3 billion years of biological history can be wiped away in a generation and a half.
The current pro-gay and pro-gender blurring sympathies of younger people are the opposite of the generation that immediately preceded them (many Gen Xers were even more proud to be straight then their parents or grandparents were). So, it can be explained as a new generation(s) simply trying to be different.
Straights will get tired of the gender ambiguity and want to re-emphasize sex roles and culture, plus a new generation will want to be different than the one(s) that preceded them. A Heterosexual Renaissance will occur within three generations at the most.
