This is what I have a hard time with and will probably get me in trouble for saying something. Why do you want to be the director of religious studies in the Catholic school if you don't believe what Catholics believe????? Don't get it.
Is it reasonsable for a catholic school to discriminate based on sexual orientation or religion? My first instinct is to say they should reasonably be able to set this expectation, but then my mind starts thinking about the what ifs and it's a very slippery slope.
Given my lack of religion, I would never want to teach in that setting. Why would someone want to if the teachings conflict with his/her beliefs?
I heard something today that impressed me for its aptness. The speaker suggested religious leaders need to stick to feeding and comforting people rather than spending time in politics. I think its possible to do your duty in most places, regardless of feelings for the assholes around you.
I would agree.
A friend of mine, a Christian, and I discussed this today: http://johnpavlovitz.com/2015/07/01/6-ways-christians-lost-this-week/. She had come across it and felt it summed her feelings perfectly.

I own a book, a biography of my ancestor, Reverend John Johnson. In 1820 a black man he knew asked Johnson to buy his wife's freedom as her owner planned to sell her to a Louisiana planter. Johnson bought the woman for $300, at that time $300 was 3 years wages for most people. Johnson freed her. Then the Methodist Church tried him in its ecclesiastical court for owning a slave, the Church forbade clergy owning slaves. Johnson's defense was simple and brief: He said to the court, EVERYTHING SAID AGAINST ME IS TRUE, AND I NEVER PASS BY AN OPPORTUNITY TO DO GOOD FOR MY GOD.
I never quite understood the concept of Catholic schools.
Papist madrasa?
asshole!
No, I don't think that's the concept of a Catholic school either.
