Something clearly hissed at me from a dark room as I was walking down the hallway last night.

No, this was not a cat, my cat was fast asleep in my bathroom sink.

This incident really spooked me.

I probably shouldn't be reading this, since I'm alone in a semi-strange home. lol
It's so weird to hear something and not know what it is!

Did it have a Jimmy Durante nose?

Last night I kept hearing buzzing like a large bug in my kitchen, except I could not see the damn thing anywhere. It ruined my life. I kept feeling phantom bugs in my hair, I was so paranoid. And I was afraid to go in the kitchen because WHAT IF IT WAS A FUCKING BEE?!?!

A bullet, or other projectile passing close to your ear can make such a sound.

I'm with FGB. I'd suspect a snake or possum.... if it wasn't a cat.

No, I don't have any radiators in my house.

The hiss was very loud and happened at the exact time I walked passed the door of that room.

Last summer I was walking up to the back door of my house and the porch light was out. The only light visible was a small spot of light glowing through the window of the door, and the rest was almost completely pitch black. Walking up the steps mostly by muscle memory, my mind was mulling over some random problem I was facing. When I heard a soft rumbling growl from off to the side, I froze in place and my heart rate spiked. When I looked over to see two floating red discs three feet off the floor, accompanied by another guttural growl, for a couple of seconds I could have pissed myself.

Luckily I remembered that I had let the dog out in the yard a bit earlier, and he was now as confused to my presence as I was to his. After about five seconds I could breathe again, so I called his name, and the hellspawn demon magically turned into a happy doggy. Tragedy averted! However, I still remember that moment of the creep-out factor.

To the OP: Check for animals. Really. Even a rodent in the vents or behind the walls could do it, or maybe their noises were coming through an open window.

Could it be that chimp that rang your doorbell is pranking you again?

On the other hand-

Suppose there was neither a hiss nor a chimp. Have you forgot to take your medication?

It's probably time to tell this to your doctor and see what he thinks about all of this.
