It's official.... I will be bald for a short while yet.

I have melanoma and the path results show it's not clear margins, plus we got the biopsy results back from a second spot about 3 inches away from the one I had removed last Friday and it too is a melanoma (being removed on Monday).
We are still waiting for the pathology from the bone sample they took.

Okay, so basically they are getting things in gear just in case, and you guys have socialized medicine...

Radiation therapy is not the standard course of action for melanoma. Recurrent or really advanced melanoma maybe, but the sentinel node biopsy would be the first port of call especially if unclear margins and/or advanced.

I am confused.

Is this not the norm for melanoma? Excision, followed by radiation?
My specialist seemed pretty sure about this.
Now you make me want to ask even more questions!

Ask the staging...

They may be just more aggressive in OZ since you guys have tons of melanoma cases.

Nice. Live long and prosper, indeed.

You don't have quite my ears or my cranium, but you rock the bald look well, considering.

Kids used to call me Spock because my ears are quite pointy.

The nick 'Dobby' has stuck

Sucky news, but better than the Dr.s missing it. Hang in there.

Well you should ask lots of questions of any doctor regardless of what some random on the internet tells you! For a recurrent melanoma, radiation is pretty standard. I am super surprised they are not taking a lymph node biopsy, even a needle aspiration.

I'm guessing they probably will, come Monday, because of the second spot.
I'll find out tomorrow at me pre-op appt.

Got called in to the doc, and I have another spot on my scalp that needs to come out and then it's off for radiation treatment. Surgery Monday.
Not exactly the news I was hoping for.

Sorry to hear this. Best of luck on everything. I don't know if it helps to tell you this, but I had my first bout with cancer in 1997, and I'm still here.
