That's what his hair would have looked like when he was alive. Pharos shaved except for the one lock and wore wigs. He wouldn't have let his hair grow until he was so sick he could no longer groom himself properly. That was the style at the time, and how he would want to be remembered. Not that many people would have seen his hair anyway, because it would have always been covered by wigs and headdresses. And if it WERE red, he would have dyed it black, because Set had red hair and it was associated with douchebaggery. Egyptians, believe it or not, were actually very anti-redheads because they were associated with the god Set who was the god of things like storms, confusion, and general dickery.
