Why are men nicer to women who wear high heels ?

A study has been done, and it proves that a man is more likely to offer help to a woman in high heels. Drop some item, and he will be likely to pick it up for you if you are wearing high heels. Or, open a door for you. Or, carry something for you. Or, share a cab with you.

Why ?

Are women who wear high heels sending a non-verbal message?

Women who wear high heels are trying to attract men,
and they do not mind altering their posture and carriage,
if it means they will attract admiring glances, and more.

(It is OK to speak to a woman who wears high heels, because she is not a practical-shoe-wearing, man-hating dyke-lesbian. Or, a vegetarian that concerns herself with ecology, sexism, and yoga. Or, a female student that is so serious about her studies, that she does not invest her money in man bait, and spends her cash on books and practical needs. Or, a woman who has entered the world of male dominated fields, that challenges a man's sense of identity. Steel toed boots on a woman? Tall black boots made for a female State Trooper ? The boots of a female warrior, with war skills ?

I have seen men make posts about how ugly the Ugg boots are.
Flat heeled shoes do not seem to translate to sexy.
Running shoes seem to lack sex appeal, too.

A woman who wears high heels, cares about her appearance.
She likes to look sexy.

If she is seeking male glances and attention from males,
she might be seeking sexual partners.

Wearing high heels says something about her status, and her earning power.
Beautiful high heels do not grow on trees. They are expensive luxury items.
How does she pay for them ?

If she is wearing heels, a lot of things at least to us look more awkward. It brings out the white knight. You LOOK like you need help so we do.

There was a time when we helped more, but a woman in ugly shoes is more likely to wave you off with "I got it."

I wonder if gals wear high heels to look bigger than they are. Short women seem to like them.

Very insightful.

I once worked for a powerful woman who was short without her heels. I wondered about her because she seemed ungraceful in them and reminded me of men who try to wear heels. Clop, clop, clop like a draught horse on cobblestones. I assumed she wore them to appear taller.

I have a wife and five daughters who vary from 184cm to 192cm (6' to 6' 3") and they all wear high heels from time to time. The tallest reckons that while some men are intimidated, others seem attracted (or challenged) by the apparently (physically) dominant female.

Another thinks that heels require the wearer walk more langourously rather than just clump along, and thinks that adds to the attraction.

I would like to think that I would be a gentleman no matter what she is wearing. If I don't help a lady out no matter what the situation, then shame on me. Maybe that is my age showing. That being said, I love the looks of high heels.

high heels are the modern day equivalent of foot binding, or suffocatingly tight corsets. hobbling women is a fashion statement.

why do they help, because we're rendered less able bodied b our choice of attire.

helpless? *fapfapfap*

if you want to test that theory further, get an eating disorder.

I once saw something on telly, think it might even have been Luther, where they said foot binding made tighter vaginas.

Dating requirement. Being short without wearing heels means there are a whole range of males over a certain height who are off limits to us.

My gentleman is 6'3. Heels are a MUST.

It might just be because she has a weapon at her disposal.

I was gonna say this same thing. So many people have been attacked/killed with a high heels. When you wear them, you exude power. It's godawful on your ankles but damn do you know you can kill a man with the pressure of your kick magnified 100x. That's the reason they're so popular with doms. I love them. On other people and on me.

Ugg boots are similar to Birkenstocks.

Women in heels are only appealing to me, because they look precariously perched, and like they might fall over at any time... but I have a unique look on sexuality, so I am guessing that most guys just like it because it makes a woman arch her back and stick out her ass.

It's weird that I said literally the exact opposite of this. I very seriously doubt that any guy who hasn't worn heels thinks about this at all, and the ones that have think like I do, ie: She has mad balance and simple math says that reducing the surface area of a kick makes it more powerful. Men who aren't fashion minded still notice heels because I don't think I know a single man who hasn't had one thrown at him or who doesn't know someone who's been attacked with them. If you wear them, they = fashion. If you don't they = weapons. You have to remember that heels weren't invented to keep women down in the same manner that footbinding was, they were originally designed in mid evil England for male butchers, so they could wade through blood. That's the arched design that we still use today. Before that they were used by male nobles to achieve more height, but they were designed slightly differently and weren't as restrictive. The restriction was considered necessary in the butcher trade because tho it killed your ankles it actually made you less likely to stick to the clotted blood, because there was less surface area.

...not that I'm fucking obsessed with heels and have multiple bins of them or anything...

...at all.

...I'm short, ok?

Actually, OP, there are several studies that show that if women are in male dominated fields where they aren't required to wear certain footwear (like steel-toed boots) they're the most likely to wear heels, because the most confident women are the ones who are most likely to wear heels. Sociologists believe that his is because we live in a society where height exudes power. So female lawyers, for example, in a field where you need to be as powerful as possible, are extremely likely to wear higher heels than say, personal assistants.

Edit: The stiletto has long been an icon used to symbolize power in the feminist movement, and I know that there are a couple of women's organizations within STEM fields who are named after heels for the reasons I've been talking about. Like High-Tech Heels and High Heels to the Top.

It's not the shoes themselves that attract men folk, it's the no-bullshit attitude that women in heels often have. Confidence and dominance are sexy. Knowing that you could kill me if you put that stiletto tip through my trechia and you choose not to builds trust, as well as respect. It's not rocket science.

He has a short torso and long legs?

I'm not one to be a sexist man pig and I've been told off enough times for holding the door or trying to be polite and help a cluster fuck police up her mess that my chauvinism is both distasteful and unwanted. So there is no "nicer" for women in heels...they are responsible for their poor choice in footwear. 0 fucks given.

Oh and the whole "I wore heels and my feet hurt, feel sorry for me!!" load? Fuck you....you're the moron who put that dumb shit on her feet, fucking own that shit and STFU. Don't want your feet/calvs to be killing you at the end of the day? How about get some real footwear and stop yer bitchin'

I know I've posted in this thread a million times so I'll do this one and stop. About 6 months ago, I started frequently wearing heels when not in drag, just to see if anybody would give me shit about it. No one did. I don't know if people are nicer, but I really, really expected to get shit for it. I think it might be because of how I dress, anyway, having heels or platforms on your boots doesn't stand out so much, because the subculture I'm apparently in that's just... accepted? For some reason? Because most like... gothrock or metal celebrities also wear heels. Like all the fucking time. And no one questions it. I have no idea why.

And also because it doesn't make me freakishly tall so nobody thinks about it. Because in heels I'm actually the size of a human being instead of an elf. I've even got a pair that I originally made for a steampunk con thing that are made from the same pattern as the 16th century butcher's patterns (the actual shoes were called patterns), which differ from say, Egyptian butcher's patterns which I THINK are the oldest but they are hard-fucking core. I don't know if I could walk in those. They're like looking at fashion based torture porn. I'm talking about the ones with like the fucking buckles and shit. I'm trying to bring it back.
