They just can't seem to understand that a whole bunch of money moving around does the country better than a whole bunch of money sitting in a hand full of rich folks bank accounts while the rest are on food stamps.

I think part of it is the kind of understanding that the system in a bizzare twisted sort of way appears to be working. The rich pay the majority of the taxes (Though one could make a damn good argument that it's not their fair share. When Russia or China attacks they aren't coming for my freedom, that's not a mineable resource. They aren't coming for your pot farm either. They are coming for Bush's Oil Fields and Elon Musks factories and I honestly don't know who owns the coal mines. So the military protecting me is kind of an after thought and I don't benefit from food stamps.

But on the subject of food stamps it's basically the rich refuse to pay a wage, so we tax them and pay workers that aren't even theirs. It's not as good as it could/should be but I can at least fathom how people look at it shrug and say it would be a lot of work to unfuck that and make it do basically the same thing.

People made it alright before food stamps.
Commodities were given to the people before food stamps were thought up. Commodities included the basic needs for a family. Four, sugar, meat, cheese were some of the things people got for free.
commodities came from govt. supplies they bought to keep the prices of food from dropping to where the farmer could not make a living.

Since these food products were bought by the govt. at a relative low price no one made much money from them. The middle man was left out.
Business people saw how much they could increase their sales if they could stop the govt. from giving away these foods.
The idea of food stamps came up. The people who needed the food saw a decrease in their foods they had been getting. The business people saw a great increase in their sales. The large farmers saw an increase in the price of their products.
At first only food items could be bought with food stamps and companies competed for a chance to get their products on the acceptable food stamps list.
More and more items were placed on that list, mostly over priced junk.
Now there is very little of the money in the food stamp program spent on food stuff. Mostly they are sold or items bought for resale. Some stores will sell tobacco, alcohol, and gas for food stamps usually at a rate of double price if food stamps are used.
Before there wasn't a food stamp program and the people received good food. Now we have a program that is basically over run with fraud and growing daily.
The people who are making the money happen to be the large businesses.

I said that the high tax rates were used to force the rich to invest their money in the areas where it benefited the american people. Only idiots would ever pay the highest rates. So while the high rates might hammer you, most people would avoid them.

I never said anything about taking something away from the rich. I was trying to explain, listen closely now, that the rich kept their money, they just were forced to put it into investments where, while it made more money for them, it also helped the rest of their fellow americans.
